Wrong Avatar, unless that was the joke?

Re: Star Wars
I could see Episode VII potentially beating Avatar at the Domestic Box Office (at least in the opening few weeks, it's going to be a very top heavy box office I think) but I'm not sure the Star Wars franchise still holds the same amount of cultural weight in Europe, Asia etc.
And I thought Avatar was massively overrated, good effects and 3d, but overlong, cheesy and a rather predictable story, it's one of the very few movies I've come close to walking out of in the cinema.
I'll probably drag myself to the sequel (it's set partially underwater, so the 3d beasties should be interesting at least) but it's been so long since the last one I think the hype may have died a little...

It was.. a joke.

Although, if pushed, I'd probably say James Cameron's Avatar is a better adaptation of ATLA than Shyamalan's..

Re: Star Wars
I watched Avatar in a state of shock that this was the top grossing film- why is it popular? I have no idea having watched it if the script is just awful or intentionally awfully, maybe they just needed to find some creativitium for it!

Re: Star Wars
The film was worth seeing for its imagery and technical excellence. It's poor writing and predictable plot were not why people went to see it Petty and Malickfan.
Speaking of walking out on a movie: the only one I've ever left prematurely was Season of the Witch. It began with an incredibly bad montage of gory battle scenes that I found so off-putting that I walked out and went to see True Grit again instead.

Re: Star Wars
For me the script is everything- a good story, characters and constructed plot will beat any amount of flashy technical wizardly for me- if the story and everything else sucks I don't care about the look, its just white noise, even if its very pretty white noise.

My personal theory-- like 2001:A Space Odyssey, Avatar isn't encumbered with so much plot that it distracts from the pretty light show, making it a perfect movie for stoners to watch over and over and over and over. Added benefit to the theaters: Popcorn sales!

Re: Star Wars
Actually that makes sense of quite a lot of films with no script.

Re: Star Wars
Sorry, I just couldn't refrain from it
(and as a Disney and Star Wars fan I think that it is actually pretty good
[or to be more accurate: very, very, very amusing])

The main thing that does is remind me how good the prequels looked, even if they sucked.

- Huge image:
Well, it's a poster, that's for sure.

Edit: If that big sphere in the back turns out to be another death star, I will walk out of the theater.

Re: Star Wars
Clearly aiming for that retro feel- very reminiscent of the original trilogy posters. And Id say they have captured that look and feel rather well.

Re: Star Wars
Pretty cool poster and all but I can't focus on anything but the potential Death Star III. I know they're going for something more in the style of the Original Trilogy but that's just such a bizarre direction to go in. Would they really recycle that concept again? I don't want to think they would but that's definitely what it looks like. Not gonna judge the film until I've seen it of course, but it's kinda weird.
Re: Star Wars
I think the new trailer is out tonight.

I had forgotten about that. A reason to tune into Monday Night Football even though it's Eagles-Giants.

Ah hell, it is looking like another death star. *sigh*
