Star Wars Episode VII will be made now that Disney bought Lucasfilm
Holy fucking shit.

As far as I can tell this is not a joke. That's Disney's real website.
Fuck me.

As far as I can tell this is not a joke. That's Disney's real website.
Kathleen Kennedy, current Co-Chairman of Lucasfilm, will become President of Lucasfilm, reporting to Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn. Additionally she will serve as the brand manager for Star Wars, working directly with Disney's global lines of business to build, further integrate, and maximize the value of this global franchise. Ms. Kennedy will serve as executive producer on new Star Wars feature films, with George Lucas serving as creative consultant. Star Wars Episode 7 is targeted for release in 2015, with more feature films expected to continue the Star Wars saga and grow the franchise well into the future.
...
The last Star Wars movie release was 2005's Revenge of the Sith – and we believe there's substantial pent up demand. In 2015, we're planning to release Star Wars Episode 7 – the first feature film under the "Disney-Lucasfilm" brand. That will be followed by Episodes 8 and 9 – and our long term plan is to release a new Star Wars feature film every two to three years. We're very happy that George Lucas will be creative consultant on our new Star Wars films and that Kathleen Kennedy, the current Co-Chair of Lucasfilm, will executive produce. George handpicked Kathy earlier this year to lead Lucasfilm into the future. She'll join Disney as President of Lucasfilm, reporting into Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn and integrating and building the Star Wars franchise across our company.
Fuck me.

This still doesn't feel real.
Re: Star Wars Episode VII will be made now that Disney bought Lucasfilm

And to think I thought it couldnt get any worse than the last three films, just goes to show that when you've been as disapointed in something as its possible to ever be, life can always make it even worse.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII will be made now that Disney bought Lucasfilm
The worst part about this -- beyond the sequel trilogy that Lucas swore up and down wasn't coming -- is Disney's plan to release SW movies indefinitely. How'd that work out for the Star Trek, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc.?

Re: Star Wars Episode VII will be made now that Disney bought Lucasfilm
No the worst thing is if it keeps making money somehow we can look forward to also seeing The Hobbit: Still Going There and back Again Part 22

Princess Leia is now a Disney Princess.
Re: Star Wars Episode VII will be made now that Disney bought Lucasfilm
I have to give you credit Eldo - I kinda figured your generation wouldn't know the difference between the first set of SW movies and the second set. Though after the first 20 minutes of Return of the Jedi the decay was already evident.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII will be made now that Disney bought Lucasfilm
I'm not really a prequel hater and I do think that a lot of people online just jump on the hate train because everyone else is doing it. But really, there's no comparison, not even with Return of the Jedi. Most people I know feel the same way, though I don't know about people born too late to remember the prequels coming out.
Re: Star Wars Episode VII will be made now that Disney bought Lucasfilm
pardon me, is this a good or a bad thing?
Re: Star Wars Episode VII will be made now that Disney bought Lucasfilm
Different people have different opinions. I know some who are excited about this.
But for me? Just look at my avatar.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII will be made now that Disney bought Lucasfilm
Though I remember the first prequel pretty well, I don't remember the other two as much. I think the second had some great moments marred by the most ham-handed love scenes ever written. If not for that I think episode 2 might be at the level of the original trilogy. Except for some volcano action nothing in episode 3 seems memorable. Have to rewatch them.

It's kinda like resigning ourselves to watching The Hobbit, isn't it?
Disney also got rights to Indiana Jones, which doesn't bother me quite as much, since that's in line with Pirates of the Caribbean. They did the first one right, at least.

I'll watch it too, of course, but for a long time now Episode VII has basically been a joke -- something that no one but the craziest of fanboys thought was going to happen. I guess the joke's on us.
Re: Star Wars Episode VII will be made now that Disney bought Lucasfilm
Soon Disney will own everything... Including people

Re: Star Wars Episode VII will be made now that Disney bought Lucasfilm
If they ever buy the rights to The Hobbit and LOTR I don't know whether I'll laugh or cry. Fortunately I think WB is big enough to hold onto that property.
Re: Star Wars Episode VII will be made now that Disney bought Lucasfilm
Some relevant comments from Lucas (via NBC News).
Although he'd said in the past that he wasn't going to make any more "Star Wars" movies other than the original three and the three prequels, George Lucas has changed his mind. Well, kind of.
In a video discussion with Lucasfilm co-chair Kathy Kennedy, Lucas explains that he didn't really go back on his word.
"I always said I wasn't going to do any more ('Star Wars' films)," he said. "That's true ... but that doesn't mean I'm not going to turn it over to Kathy."
Lucas said that he had produced story treatments for the next trilogy of films as well as "other movies." Kennedy said that she already was discussing ideas with writers, and noted "the main thing is to protect the characters."
In sequence, the film would come after 1983's "Return of the Jedi," which ends with an Ewok-assisted battle on Endor and features a final scene of the spirits of Obi-Wan, Yoda and Anakin Skywalker watching over Luke and the other Rebels celebrating the end of the Empire.
Lucas and Kennedy haven't said how long after "Jedi" the first new film would be set, or what familiar characters might return.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII will be made now that Disney bought Lucasfilm
If it was going to go anywhere, it was going to be Disney. They have Star Wars stuff scattered all around their theme parks.
At least in the commentary they admit that Ep. 1-3 weren't very well received. I suppose it now depends on what it is they think would be well received.
With everything since the new Battlestar being filmed in a gritty way and the rise of the multi-talented Disney star, I can see the cast of an episode 4 remake... Matt Damon (Solo), Selena Gomez (Leia), Zac Efron (Skywalker), Andy Serkis (CGI Yoda)......

I think I'm looking forward to this

Re: Star Wars Episode VII will be made now that Disney bought Lucasfilm
I have not a lot of emotion invested in the franchise - I didnt even mind Jar Jar Binks - and I like Disney movies generally, especially animated stuff, which Star Wars largely is, so I'll look forward to the new movies.
