Sadly no. For long enough I was no better than PJ in regarding the prologue. It was not until the thought occured to me to do the Ring Verse as the opening, same as the book, that it led onto putting the pertinent parts of the rest of the prologue where they are in the book too. Once I'd tried it, even the first rough cuts of it I was certain Tolkien was right along-of course. Its a major improvement in my view. But the fact it took me so long to release it definently disqualifies me from the 'clever' award.

Okay, finished Book 1. Are the spoiler alerts still necessary? Guess it's easy enough to do and may prevent adulterating comments from others.
On to downloading book 2.

- Interesting, I see that you haven't been so concerned with removing everything that didn't line up with the books, mainly the over the top things like Frodo jumping for the ferry. In most cases I think this would improve the theatrical cut, but doesn't matter so much to a more leisurely home viewing.
the only things that didn't work for me were more due to the fact that you had to deal with pre-cut material, so the transitions would not be smooth. For instance when you cut Frodo stamping out the fire on Weathertop, there's no longer a reason to suddenly see the approach of the Nazgul. Or when Arwen catches Aragorn cutting athelas, it smooths the transition to her riding in to pick up Frodo. Would be fine if you had a few more seconds to work with to make things less sudden. But all were otherwise sensible cuts.
I think the one thing I don't agree with is the moment at the Ford of Bruinen when Arwen says "let what grace is given to me pass to him". It's a nice touch that makes up for her not being given a chance to give Frodo her place at the Grey Havens.

I am undecided about cutting that out for that very reason- it only makes sense if you know that from the book however and make the leap PJ is insinuating it here. My main reason for cutting it is that other than that line it is needlessly melodramatic.
Hope you enjoy book 2- the real big changes I suppose occur more from book 3 onwards- 1 and 2 whilst having some major changes do stick more to Pj's ordering than the rest of my edits do.

I'm doing book 2 in snippets. Right now there are a couple of things that I always disliked but you seem to be okay with, or maybe you couldn't edit them out cleanly. Guess I'll go back into spoilers:

I see that you cut out some of the wizard battle, well and good. But two phrases I always particularly hated:
"You have elected....the way of pain!"
Don't know if that can be cut while keeping other lines and preserving continuity.
"So you have chosen death."
Again, not Tolkien or the spirit of Tolkien. I think it irritates me because it so closely mirrors the above line. I think this one can be edited out and still look good. May be music problems though.
I like that you removed Elrond's doubt of Aragorn, but I kind of like the private conversation between Aragorn and Arwen that begins "Why do you fear the past...". I think it adds rather than detracts if nobody else (except of course Boromir) doubts him, but he has secret fears he'll only admit to his true love. There was a glimpse of this in the book at the falls of Rauros: decisive in front of others, but an inner dialogue of self doubt.
Clever work stealing the dream love scene from TT and inserting it with translated dialogue to show Arwen sending Aragorn off. I'll have to watch and see what it does to the dramatic tension if you include the scene where she turns around.

That line does not bother me enough (well no more than any of the rest of PJ's made up dialogue does) and I think removing it would cause sound problems.

That line however I do strongly dislike, its typical PJ melodrama which Tolkien doesn't stoop to, however as you correctly point out tricky sound wise to remove- however its deserving of removal so I am going to have a damn good go and see what I can do.

There is a very good reason that conversation is gone- and a big part of it is the line you quote, and the entire sentiment of it- Aragorn n my edit is restored to non-hesitant, completely certain- the focus of his doubt in my edit is soley over Arwen and the pain of if he succedds knowing she will forever be split from her kin (which is the point of the resubtitled scene where she sees him off, and when you get to Lothlorien the fnal part of the Aragorn/Arwen stroy is in the resubtitled scene between Aragorn and Galadriel)- this is still not completely true to the book, but Aragorn did go through those doubts and worries when he was younger and he and Arwen first plighted their troth, after all Elrond was very much a father figure to the young Aragorn and he spent a lot of time with Elronds sons- but there is no reluctant Aragorn in my edit-he is completely resolved about becoming King same as in the book which is why the scene had to go).

Not sure I know what scene that is- do you mean the 'bedroom' scene where she is standing looking out the porch at the start (in the semi transparent dress!-not that I noticed editing it frame by frame in HD
)- if so that scene was in my edit with redone subtitles but I removed it on the advice of, um, sorry, Kafria or Orwell I think, or possibly even both, or someone else, as being unnecessary, and it does add another few minutes to the Rivendell section which is already longer with the inclusion of the Gandalf stuff and the scene from TT with Arwen.

Apoligies Kafria, there has been many reasons for the delay (and only 1 of them was because I really couldnt be arsed-ok it was one of the main ones-the other main one was I begged-dont ask how- Bear Muirdock, proprietor of NotP and hobbit eating troll, for use of his Skydrive-uploaded the next 4 parts of book 4- then in an unrelated matter when using a program to clear out temporary cached memory-my render program leaves a lot of stuff clogging it up -I forgot to uncheck the boxes for internet history, passwords, cache files etc- and I lost the password for Bears skydrive and cant for the life of me remember it-and worse there is a typo in the bloody email address I put in for recovering the password so its a nonexistant address!!

Got a friend with a pc Mrs Figg? They could kindly do the downloading and just give you the video files (although whether they will play back smoothly on a notepad I'm not sure as they are large HD files- but if you watch HD on it normally should be ok.
Plus as their is a max file size for me uploading its split into small chunks that get stuck back together once you have them all- so each individual file you download is not that big in itself. Have a go see if you can I say.

Just finished downloading all parts of book 4, but I got a message saying I need part 40 to continue extracting, and there are only 39 parts on the skydrive. Where is this mysterious part 40?

Last parts of Book 4 are on a second skydrive. The first is out of space. Petty can send you a link by pm, it takes you straight to the files!
