And old Norwegian (Norrønt) for stories of Gods having sex with horses. Shocked  Maybe that explains something.  Razz No idea what though.

When you're well on your way through it, would you mind posting what you think of it, and I'll repost my "thoughts" from a few pages back? Smile

Figgy - Yes, started watching series 1 this week. The first few episodes dragged a bit. Lots of setting up of characters.... I wonder if it initially lost a lot of viewers because of that. Picking up now though.

Ringo - I will put my thoughts in spoilers as it seems there are things in book 3 that are in series 4.

I agree Lance. the first two or three episodes of season 1 were a bit tedious but stick with it and after a bit it gets very good indeed. I personally got hooked by the end of season 2, so it took a good while to get me really into it.

Well I was one of those people who never made it all the way through the first two episodes due to excessive boredom.  Mad
I thought it was like a very dull version of the War of the Roses.
I am sure it does get better the more you watch but frankly I dont have the time to watch two whole series before it engages my attention.

the first two episodes were boring and I almost didnt bother continuing. but take my word for it, if you stick with it in the end you will be glad you did. Its a slow burn, but some people want instant gratification and dont have the patience with a slow start. Now I think its the best thing I have seen on tv for a very long time. The last time something grabbed me like this was Lost, or maybe X-Files. The characters are all little jems and the world building is masterful. Its worth watching for Tyrion alone.

Petty - I am sure I have read somewhere about Hollywood catering to the short attention span masses and how everything is worse for it..... and I am sure you posted some of it!!

Many of my favourite films and tv are very slow burners- but they weren't deathly dull with it.
I found those episodes not just slow, but dull as ditch water.
I didn't find the characters, the setting or the plot engaging in the slightest and couldn't see what the fuss was about.
The whole thing struck me as a below par and a less interesting retelling of the War of the Roses with fantasy elements thrown randomly at it.  Shrugging (And the real War of the Roses is much more interesting and fascinating to me)

Hardly, unless I drop down dead (always possible) it will be there to watch for years to come if I ever get bored of interesting tv!
It just wasn't to my tastes- as I have said before I have never been a fan of 'adult' fantasy literature, and it seems I find it no less palatable in film form either. And if I find it very dull too then even less incentive to watch hours of it.
I'll stick with Tolkien thanks.

I dont see how not watching something I wasnt enjoying can be counted as a loss.
Like saying if you dont like the taste of marmite its your loss. No its just personal taste.

it is your loss because you have discounted it without watching it. How can you possibly make an educated guess if you havent seen something? Its like saying you dont like marmite because of its smell, you have to taste it and then rub it all over your bottom slapping it with a plank of wood until your eyes water..just sayin

Well, most people (including me) don't like beer the first time they taste it. Yet the majority end up loving it. Some words of fjordian wisdom for you, Petty! study

I loved beer from the word go!  drunken

And I gave GoT two hours of my time and it didnt engage me at all, quite the opposite. It bored me to tears, so hardly incentive to keep watching in the hope it might one day get interesting.

The books are much the same - not boring, but slow at first. You get hooked soon enough Smile If you lying in bed with the flu and got nothing to do one day, give it another go - I've not seen the TV series yet myself, but judging by what others have written here it looks like the series is pretty close to the books, so I wouldn't give up on it that early if I were you (which I'm not Wink )

Got to much to watch and do and not enough time- and given a choice between forcing myself through more GoT that I didn't enjoy at all instead of say watching all of Breaking Bad which I have just started I think I'll go with BB, seems a better use of my time.  Nod

Well, allow me to offer one last piece of advice - if you find Breaking Bad slow-going at first, don't give up on it. I didn't get hooked until perhaps the second season, but it's probably the best show I've ever watched (and I'm saying this as a die-hard fan(atic) of The Sopranos!). I'm just waiting until enough time has passed so I can watch it again Smile

Edit: Nicely put, Bungo Very Happy
