What you will find is originally it was only a few dozen Tolkien Fanatics who disliked the films. Then other people who were trying to become fanatics after seeing the film caught on and thought 'If I want to be a true fanatic I should say I disliked the film and thought them insulting to Tolkien'. So now it is trend that if your a genuine loremaster of Tolkien you have to dislike the films.
I fell into this trap the other day, was discussing the films with a friend in my class, and I couldn't just help myself recite all the criticisms that everyone on this forum has with the films, though OTOH it would get pretty boring with us going "yeah amazing films" all the time- not much of a discussion! But still, I felt like such a sheep, for sure!

Well, I know people who are critical of the films who would shudder to be described as Tolkien loremasters. 
Still, I maintain that it is fully possible to enjoy the films and also recognize their flaws. People who point out the flaws only come off as super-critical because the status quo is one of blind worshipfulness towards PJ.

What the hell is this? Its a cunning ploy isn't it to syphon off all my hatred, venom and anger to a single thread. It won't bloody well work I can tell you that my crabbitt levels exceed any attempt to confine it ok!!

Well put Petty! How's this idea? You see the movies, knowing no better, and like them a lot. Then you read the books, fall in love with them. Then you watch the movies and feel really diisappointed, knowing suddenly that there are not only flaws, but that it is not a good adaptation of the books. Because you now see the books for how great they are, you find quite a lot of PJ's version insulting to Tolkien's vision. You guys need to learn how to think - I mean it kindly - like we Purists do.
Btw Ally, NEVER be influenced by Peer Groups -- err -- at least, never admit you are!
