That was middling at a generous best. Not bad, just not...memorable. Rather sad state of affairs if what they've got to be proud of earns approval simply from not being embarrassing.

Re: All New Who
{{ Its not so much the performances, I dont mind his take on the Master except it doesnt make any character sense if it follows Missy, and its not her worst scene either in terms of performance, but the subtext of it doesnt sit well with me. Unfortunately this episode goes back to promoting some agenda stuff that dont make sense outside of being there as agenda stuff- for example she encounters two famous and important women from history, but instead of taking them back to their own time, wiping their minds then going on to modern times to deal with things, she brings them with her to modern day, then takes them home and wipes their memories- problem is they have absolutely nothing to do at the end in the modern day save walk in looking heroic flanking the Doctor as three brilliant women. Plot wise though makes no sense at all she would risk bringing them to modern day when there is no reason to, but it does make sense in regards to promoting a viewpoint.}}

Re: All New Who
{{ Spyfall- what didn't make sense.
All of it really, but lets have a go.
All of it really, but lets have a go.
- Spoiler:
- Ok the overall plot, and Ive watched it twice (Eru save me!) to try to work it out and its not because its complicated, its because it makes no sense an dis deliberately badly told so you wont notice so easily..
So there a bunch of beings who exist in another dimension/universe/realm we never find out for sure. According to the Master they have infiltrated our entire universe with spies. Why we have no idea. But the Master helped them by creating a device, which look slike a cheap wire statue in a glass case, which creates and stabilises a bit the portals between worlds. So, um how were they here already if they needed the Masters device to be here?
OK whatever, the next part of this plan is that every human on earth will have their DNA wiped, not rewritten, wiped. We are also told by tech bloke that the only useful bit of a human is their brain for processing power. So it appears the aliens are going to turn the entire human population into a hard drive. Why? What for? Was this their original plan before the Master? If not why are they going along with it? What for? Was their plan to turn the entire of our universe in to a hard drive? Is that still the plan? Would they have to go about it planet by planet in our entire universe in the same history altering convulsed the manner they do here to achieve it? No point asking answers there are none.
Anyhow Tech bloke says he and a few others will remain sentient to supervise the rest. Supervise them doing what? The only person we have seen whose DNA was wiped this way needed to be kept alive in a hospital bed, is Tech guy going to look after the earth population? Are the aliens? Except we are told they still cant fully manifest here, so they cant do it. And what exactly is tech guys motivation? Whats he get out of it? A planet of hospitalised people? And if he cant look after everyone and the aliens cant do it then everyone would just wither and die and the whole stupid plan would be over anyway. So what is the fucking plan?!! Argggg!! And for that matter what happens to Tech guy after it all goes wrong, he just runs away and that's last we see of him.
Right back to the plan, because oh yes there is more, you see in order for the tech to be sufficiently good the Master goes back in time and places his statue in various peoples homes who were important to the history of computing, they are then taken into the aliens realm. Why? No idea. One would presume that they are being instructed in some way to speed up the development of computers. But then the Doctor tells computer woman she is brilliant and she doesn't need the aliens, so were the aliens teaching her stuff for not? If not why were they abducting her to their realm? What was the bloody point?
Why did they send Yaz back from their realm to the house in Australia?
At the end the aliens turn on the Master when the Doctor plays the recording of him saying he would betray them, but in order to keep his cover to start with he fries a whole load of them with his TARDIS shields and they were fine with that? Why did they let him do that?
Why did the aliens start killing off spies?We are told that earth spy agencies detected their presence, but as there was nothing earth could have done about them anyway why start killing?
The Master wants the Doctor to find out about the Timeless Child, so why does he keep switching scene to scene from trying very hard to kill her to not trying at all. For example whilst a Nazi thinking she is under the floorboards he has his men shoot up the floor, but immediately afterwards agrees to go have a nice chat and explain some more of his plan to her, only to them try to kill her again afterwards, and he tried to blew her up on a plane so why did he leave the hologram message for it explaining what he did to Gallifrey and about the Timeless Child that she could only have seen if she wasn't dead? Similarly if his entire plan was for her to board the plane where he had the bomb planted etc why try to kill her so often on the way there? Why did tech guy try to shoot them? How did the Master even know they'd end up on the plane given the sensible thing to do would have been to take the TARDIS not bikes, and track the plane from there no problem. Which is another issue, why don't they track the plane with the TARDIS, once onboard the plane the Doctor says her plan is to have a seat see where it's going. They could have done that easily from the TARDIS as we've seen many times before and not been in any danger. If you don't want the plot to use the TARDIS you need to get it out th p lot, not leave it parked next to the bikes they take instead for no reason.
Hows does the Master track the Doctor through time? How does he locate her? She doesn't even mean to be in 1943 its an accident.
Why is Gallifrey still in a bubble universe when they had left that and placed the planet at the end of time in series 10?
Why does the Masters TARDIS not have a console room?
What was the point of the Fam in episode 2? They go on the run and then hide out and that's it.
All the stuff I noticed Chibbers ripped off to some degree or other-0
Destroying Gallifrey- form RTD
Doctor talking forma recording on a TV screen- Blink
Fam on run as the countries no1 criminals- RTD, Sound of Drums
Glowly aliens form another dimension- RTD, Army of Ghosts
People being wiped/uploaded by their tech- Moffat, Bells of St John
4 drums- RTD Sound of Drums
Master sayng he doe sit to get the Doctors attention- Moffat, Dark Water
Master making the Doctor say his name- RTD, Sound of Drums
Aliens secretly among us influencing history- Moffat, Day of the Moon
Killer sat-nav- Sontaran Experiment, Rtd
Doctor telling companion(s) about Gallifrey but keeping the truth back- RTD, Gridlock
And most ironically, Curse of the Fatal Death, from the wilderness years, written by Moffat a Doctor Who spoof for Red Nose Day in which the Doctor defeats the Master by having to constantly go back in time just a bit earlier than him to stop him, resulting in the Master having to live through a chunk of earths history over and over just to to get back to the same moment of triumph only for it to be snatched way again by the Doctor. Its pretty much how this story resolves, using a parody of Doctor Who, fitting really.
Anyone spot any more cribbed ideas from previous better Who? But yeah, this was a badly put together best hits of RTD and Moffat slapped together into an over convoluted plot by a lesser writer.

I think at this point the show should be cancelled before Chibers destroys it. Chibnal has less imagination than most fans. hell, we could do a much better job.
The last time I thought that Dr Who was fresh and interesting was in the Flatline episode.

I am not burning yet, which, of course, is good. Thanks for the thoughts. And it is great to see the Doctor Who chat is still going strong in Forumshire... Really, Doctor Who and the Hobbits must be just around the corner!
Indeed, the next Doctor should be a Hobbit IMO. And, so as we are politically correct, a Scotshobbit would seem appropriate...

I dunno, Orwie. The Moffat age was very scottish. And therefore untouchable. Perhaps they should go more Irish to balance things out, save the union and such. Make them feel included too.
Or just get Hivju as the Doctor. Ginger at last. And everybody loves Hivju. That would have been... interesting.
Still not seen episode 2. We started watching Dracula instead.

Oh, do pop over to the tv thread and let us know what you two made of it.
Right, back to Who, sort of. Lenny Henry- who played the villanious head of the the tech company has had a brush with Who before, way back in 1985 when the 6th Doctor Colin Baker was being yanked off the air by Head of the BBC and Thatcherism was the bogeyman of every right on comedian of the day, Lenny Henry was a young comedian and had got his first sketch show, the aptly named Lenny Henry Show on air in which he made this sketch playing the Doctor (incidentally you can tell he was a fan of the show I think because I had expected a lot of colour based jokes given it was the 1980's and there has never been a black Doctor, but in fact they are few and low key and he pretty much plays the Doctor part straighter than expected). He'd have made a better choice for 13 than Jodie I fear! }}

{{ Interesting take from the Guardian on what's wrong with Who. And in my view one of the reasons Chibbers is the wrong head writer, he doesnt understand the lead character.

If youve not time to read all of it, bits I thought of interest-
'...many believe this iteration has actually lost the morality that made the character so unique, and become problematic on social issues – engaging with them to an often offensive degree.
Dhawan’s debut, for example, was soured by a scene in which the Doctor weaponised his race against him....The improbability of an Asian man being able to do this was explained by a “perception filter”...The Doctor escaped the Master by framing him as a British double agent, then jammed his filter, leaving him open to both the retribution and the racism of the Nazis...It’s not the first time the writing of ethnic minority characters has seemed questionable; Sharon D Clarke’s character Grace O’Brien and the mother of Lenny Henry’s character Daniel Barton, played by Blanche Williams, were both fridged almost immediately after being introduced...Kerblam, an Amazon-a-like delivery company. The story reflected real-world mistreatment of workers, but while many viewers expected a satire of exploitative capitalism, the real villain was revealed to be a maintenance man, who was killing in protest at poor working conditions. This led the Doctor to claim that “systems aren’t the problem”, just people who “use and exploit the system” – thus refusing to engage with real-world suffering...Doctor Who has had a strong history of LGBT+ representation since its return in 2005, including series-long lesbian companion Bill Potts in 2017. Executive producer Matt Strevens promised the show’s LGBT+ representation would continue, with characters from “across the spectrum”. However, representation in Chibnall’s era has been severely lacking so far. Characters have repeatedly been introduced as LGBT+, only to be promptly killed off. In the 2019 New Year special, a security guard referred to his boyfriend in his second line – and was killed by a Dalek just seconds later. The most prominent LGBT+ character in a Chibnall-penned episode, Angstrom, revealed her sexuality by referring to her dead wife...The Doctor may always have been a beacon of compassion and empathy, but too many of us are wondering where it’s gone.'
Telegraph are even more savage in their pronouncement on the current show-

Had this Dr been a man I would have stayed but, He is a she & Ive escaped the sinking ship like a rat. Ive lost my interest like I can lose my appetite. I can get my appetite back but I cant take any interest in this woman Dr. I wont say sorry either. She let me down. Ive watched Dr Who on & off for donkeys years, and, like a blind date, this new Dr has disappointed me no end. I salivated over Claes Bang as Dracula instead & didn't spare a single thought about Dr Her. If she exited the show in a horrific accident I don't think Id bat an eye. Relief more like and then Id think.....Lets get this show on the road

Re: All New Who
{{ 7 plus figures are in for the audience figures (thats the overnights plus everyone whose watched it on iplayer in last 7 days).
Remember for the BBC they want Chibbers to be holding or ideally improving on the figures for Capaldi era, an era which Chibbers and his production team have not been slow to throw under the bus to promote themselves as better, especially last series.
Well heres the season specials from Capladi's entire era, numbers in millions-
Last Christmas- 8.24
Husbands of River Song - 7.69
Doctor Mysterio - 7.83
Twice Upon A Time- 7.92
And heres the numbers for Jodies seasonal specials-
Resolution- 6.95
Spyfall part1- 6.9
So yeah, not exactly a success story so far! Don't think they will be drawing too many comparisons to Capldi era now.
This weeks episode is from Ed Himes, who you may remember penned It Takes You Away last series (the one with the single white father that abandons his handicapped teenage daughter to live in a fantasy with a sentient universe disguised as his dead wife but that prefers the form of a talking frog, yeah that Ed Himes). We are promised the scariest episode ever but I thnk they are scaring the viewers off already! }}

We are promised the scariest episode ever but I thnk they are scaring the viewers off already! }}
