Wow, you're a tough date! Me, I see big eyes like that on a young woman and that's all she wrote.

Well, I mean, she has an Australian sort of "come rustle sheep with me and sail down to Gold Coast in a skiff on the profits" sort of attraction, but yeah, I don't see that nose fitting on an elf.

{{{ My crabbit senses are tingling1 No announcement made by tv these days seems short of virtue signalling first and foremost, the thing they want to get out their first and most, and the first announcement for a main character is a young woman. After what happened to Who I am deeply suspicious of any such signalling. }}

Went back to the original source; her name will be "Tyra". Presumably.

One of the Banks clan according to Google. Odo should be pleased.

Re: Amazon, Warner Bros in Talks for LOTR Series Adaptation: Variety
Tyra is a Norse name (from Thor), if they stick with it's roots* and not use the Taira-variety, then it could work in a Middle Earth setting. But not with Banks. That's got to be a joke.

{{ I thought Tolkien mainly used Norse names for dwarves? Maybe she will be a dwarf. Its plausible given the 2nd age setting in that female dwarves must have existed, and some major dwarf stuff goes on then. Not so plausible she is a female dwarf out having adventures given what Tolkien says of how dwarves guard their women-folk more like they are precious jewels to be coveted than as individuals to be given free reign. }}

I think it's a bit of a stretch to say that this is a PR move, she's just the first cast member for whom news has gotten out.

Looking closer at Amazon's map, I see Imladris is not there. This places the map at or before the forging of the rings. Since I don't recall anything of note happening between the beginning of the second age and the times shortly before the forging of the rings, I think the first season at least will be dealing with events in Eregion with maybe a second storyline to do with Numenor's expansion into Middle Earth.

Re: Amazon, Warner Bros in Talks for LOTR Series Adaptation: Variety
Why do they keep referring to this as "Lord of the Rings"?!!
And why are they so insecure they feel they have to quote from PJ's LotR at length?
And this particular narrator doesn't seem to be aware of the hard leading 'c' in Celembrimbor. Probably because he's American and thinks "Celtic" is pronounces "Seltic".

{{ Yup you can, even Celtic has a soft s variant here in Scotland. But only when talking about the football team Celtic, pronounced Seltic. If your talking about the Celts as a people however its a hard K sound Keltic. }}

Re: Amazon, Warner Bros in Talks for LOTR Series Adaptation: Variety
'We adopted the words Celt and Celtic from two linguistic sources.
Originally, in the 17th century, we took the words from the French, pronounced with a soft C.
Later, especially in academic uses, historians went back to the original Latin Celtae for the people of Gaul which they pronounced with a hard C.
References to the history and culture of the ancient people thus tended to follow the Latin, more modern references, such as football, tended to stick to the French.
Hence the Celts (pronounced Kelts) and Celtic FC (pronounced Seltic) - Daily express
{{ Celtic (Seltic) the team were established in 1887, so I suspect using the soft c variant for a sports teams began here first. }}

Re: Amazon, Warner Bros in Talks for LOTR Series Adaptation: Variety
I looked up some junk.
I believe it was the Greek keltoi that was the original original.
From the Middle Ages until more modern times Latin itself was all Frenchified, so that when the word Celtic came into the English language in the 17th century, scholars of Latin at the time would have spoken Celtae with an S sound.
Of course, none of this changes that the name Celebrimbor does indeed start with a K sound.
