Re: Armitage talks about the Hobbit
"The armour that the dwarves emerge from the mountain wearing at the end of the film will be the armour of all armour."
This should look amazing but I worry PJ will lack restraint once more and it will just be over the top and ludicrous armour rather than effective and practical, and I'm pretty sure a race who specialize in mining and forging would favour practicality and usefulness. Remember the Witch-Kings ludicrous helmet and even more ludicrous mace? I hope it is not in the same vein.
"There was a scene in The Lord Of The Rings where they find the stone trolls, and they’re identical in The Hobbit."
This is actual good news! Will they talk, will they keep their names however?

Talking of Trolls I really really hope they include the Stone Giants throwing bits of mountain around for fun in the storm, that would be amazing.

Re: Armitage talks about the Hobbit
A double-edged comment form Armitage here -could go either way-
"I read it (TH) quite a few times when I was young. I think going back to it as an adult is really interesting because it is a book that was, I think, was written for Tolkien's children, but when you're creating a piece on this scale, you have to really visualize it for a much broader audience. I think that's the beauty of Tolkien. He does create very well-rounded, quite dangerous characters to play his protagonists. He risks scaring kids. He's the original fantasy creator, and I think you have to invest those characters with the same gravity as if you were making a piece for adults. It was interesting coming back to it as an adult, re-reading it again, because it did have a simplicity to it, which I really like. I felt we could take those characters and really develop them beyond the book. "

Re: Armitage talks about the Hobbit
I appreciate what Armitage is saying about treating the characters seriously. I think that a failure to do so can easily result in self-parody, especially in the fantasy genre. However, I think there's a fine line to tread between not making a joke of the story and not making it into a brooding serious epic. Tolkien walked that line in the book but the rest of Armitage's comment does not exactly fill me with hope that the filmmakers will do the same.

Re: Armitage talks about the Hobbit
Sadly, PJ seems to have gotten his wish of turning Thorin into a stud. At least it gave us that pic though.
Re: Armitage talks about the Hobbit
Yeah, Thorin being a stud does rather get under my skin, I guess this is why PJ's shoveling in some sizzling hot elf wenches (with slit skirts no doubt) to balance it all out. If he manages to blind the entire audience with hormones we'll all be goofy happy until it wears off about 20 minutes after we exit...tricksy bastard.

Re: Armitage talks about the Hobbit
Halfwise if there is any danger of seeing any hot elven wenches in split skirts, just think of a hot Scotsman in a split kilty skirt and that should do the trick of aversion therapy. Its bound to take the pop out of your corn and no mistake.
