I don't think moisture content makes a difference at those temperatures - saturation fraction is extremely low.

Perhaps if you are wearing enough clothing that you begin to sweat then it won't dry in the saturated air and you get cold.

All I saw was the single line that they cancelled the tsunami warning after Alaska experienced a 7.9 Richter scale quake. Didn't get the details. Didn't know there was a tsunami warning.

Come to think of it, with a tsunami not only do you have more time than a nuclear bomb, but you also know you just need to get a couple miles away from shore.

I'm sure there were a bunch of Hawaiians hearing the bomb warning and thinking "yeah, so where exactly are we supposed to GO?" Suspect

Another article on the erosion http://www.chinookobserver.com/co/local-news/20180131/should-i-stay-or-should-i-go

I was down at the beach during the middle of the storm and a reporter started asking me questions. I said I wasn't interested in answering if she was there to write another 'disaster porn' story about homes falling into the ocean, but if she wanted to tell a story of a small community that was pulling together to defend itself against long odds she should give me a call the next day. I think she did well! Nod

I drove up to the state capitol in Olympia yesterday to present to a committee that's been set up to look into our erosion. We may actually be getting some traction! (In case some of you are wondering, yes I left my rubber boots at home in favor of street shoes. I felt like I was selling out, but some sacrifices have to be made for the greater good.... )

Very Happy  First line: "NORTH COVE — There’s more than “disaster porn” to see here."

The story about slowing down but perhaps not stopping the rate of erosion brought to mind something I've been preaching about climate change: it's not the end point that matters so much as the rate.

If the erosion is slow enough, people take insurance money from property that gets eaten up (I'm assuming this is insurable) and buys/builds property further away from shore.  But this only works if the erosion moves at the rate of generational overturn - because property only becomes available as families shift.  so if you can slow it down to one line of houses every 30-40 years, you've done enough.

I'd have thought losing the Coast-Guard facility would have energized the gummint.  Guess I don't unnerstand the gummint.

I'm glad to hear the cobble plan has been helping so far and that you're making headway with getting funding. Smile State government can be weird.

You know how Canadians have curling clubs with bars in them? Well apparently Americans have decided to one-up them. Laughing

Highlandtown ax-throwing venue and bar gets OK from liquor board - Baltimore Business Journal

A new bar opening in Highlandtown next month will be one place where getting the ax is actually a good thing.

Urban Axes, which will offer visitors an opportunity to take ax-throwing lessons, was awarded a liquor license Thursday and plans to open March 15 at 1 N. Haven St.

The concept — mixing alcohol and recreational weapon-throwing — might seem dangerous. But the business will be required to follow safety regulations, including a rule that bans alcohol from the ax-throwing zone, which will be separated from the bar by low walls. Participants will need to be at least 21 years old and sign a waiver.

Urban Axes co-owner Krista Paton was inspired to start the business after attending a friend's birthday party at a BYOB ax-throwing place in Toronto. After an "awesome" experience, she and her husband decided to open the first Urban Axes location in Philadelphia. They followed up with a second location, in Austin, last summer.

Banning alcohol in the axe throwing zone is not the same as banning the inebriated. I'd put plexiglass above that low wall....
