Re: Music [3]
Listening to Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, Sing About Me, I’m Dying of Thirst is epic.

It's not fair how many amazing songs GKMC has on it but this is probably my favorite. Either that or "The Art of Peer Pressure".
Re: Music [3]
Mhm.. The whole track is pretty devestating..
Not as much of an album as tPaB, perhaps. Nor as much of an artistic effort, but it's definitely got a lot going for it.

Section.80 is pretty great too although I wouldn't put it above either of Kendrick's subsequent albums.
Re: Music [3]
Haven't heard that yet. One day.

Re: Music [3]
Good song. I appreciate you having introduced me to the Stranglers with various videos on here, Chris.
Re: Music [3]
This just popped up in my YouTube recommendations. I like the original a lot but this version is great too.

Re: Music [3]
I actually saw a John Cage performance at Rice University - he was there, but in his 80's so didn't perform. I think he could have managed the rigors of 4'33" though, even at his advanced age. I liked the prepared piano pieces. Afterward he came out and read some writings of his which were rather DaDa-esque.
My dad, who drove me there, was not impressed.

Re: Music [3]
This came up on my Pandora while I was working on D&D stuff. Good stuff!

Re: Music [3]
My first thought was "well, they never banned Eminem" and to wonder if this was a race thing, though there are plenty of other black rappers with "extreme" lyrics that they let in so yeah it's just kinda bizarre. Especially since they used the words "alter ego" in the ban.
Re: Music [3]
Very bizarre. If there was some history of violence at his concerts I might understand, but that doesn't seem to be the premise. Outright stupid.

Re: Music [3]
Yeah, it is bizarre. It's not a race issue, I think. It's just.. they couldn't have done it, legally, if he was european. Yeah.. weird..
I haven't heard the song or lyrics in question though, nor looked at the facts of the case. But, I think it should be pretty clear that on the whole rap lyrics aren't meant to be taken seriously.

Re: Music [3]
A song by Richard Manuel and Rick Danko Robbie Robertson didn't get around to writing lyrics to. He still awarded himself a writing credit though.

Re: Music [3]
Even if criminals have a tendency to prefer gangster rap, I have to think that most of the cause and effect is in that order, not the reverse.

Yeah, it's almost human rights issue. But the right to enter a country but your own isn't actually a human right. (Aside from people with refugee status and so on.)
