I should try watching some of the later Pirates movies. The first one was near perfection and one of my favorite movies of all time; but the second didn't capture the same feeling of fun so I quit.

I had the treat of seeing pandas in the Beijing zoo. They had given them a children's slide, and you can imagine how the antics of the pandas attracted a twittering, delighted crowd.

You lucky little mop head Id love to see one of these bumbling little bears, they fall about yet never seem bothered if they hurt themselves

In retrospect I was a fool not to have spent more time watching them: they got maybe less of my time than you have in that video.

Re: The YouTube thread [2]
Interesting what can be done with software now-a-days, even by relative amateurs. It really does look like stop-motion animation!

I suppose it would take more training and skill to do an anime. I know there's a lot of CAD being used even in the clearly hand illustrated work, but have no idea where the the dividing line between illustrator and computer falls these days.

Re: The YouTube thread [2]
Funny little videos about a man looking for pixies in the forest. He usually finds them. Has millions of views. Don't no how he does it's, but it quite convincing (sometimes)
See the pixies at about the 6.20 minute mark

Re: The YouTube thread [2]
Don't look very pixie like. Since they went with monochrome, smooth skinned it most likely is computer animation, perhaps painted over a human figure to get realistic motion?

Re: The YouTube thread [2]
Seems like a lot of work just for a youtube video? I have no idea what a pixie looks like.
Has nearly 400 000 subscribers so he must be making a bit of money out of it. That's an incredible lot of people interested in pixies.

Have you noticed that quite a few youtube videos have an awful lot of work put into them? Many of the science and historical ones with all the special made graphics have entire studios working on them - apparently there is money to be made, and given the quality of many of the fact based videos I think they've well earned it.
As for the pixie videos, my guess is that even though these look nothing like mythical creatures, they may have released the first one as a lark, were surprised by the reaction and kept making them. Everything except the skin tone and lack of hair is very realistic.

Re: The YouTube thread [2]
Have we done our top 5 Youtube channels yet? Mine are,
1. Joolz Guides of London - Seems like a random choice but he is such an uplifting character, he can make ordinary streets come alive. He is witty and comforting and made lockdown less scary.
2. John Rogers walking tours - the kind of guy I would like to be friends with, old hippy with atmospheric odd tours of unusual nooks and crannies of London and beyond.
3. Jonathan Pie - nuff said.
4. Glinner aka Graham Linehan - comedy TV genius and activist for women's rights. Has taken endless shit and destroyed his career for the cause.
5. Van Man Talks - literally a man in a van, talking. All sorts of stuff, politics mainly and life in general, drives round Brighton area.

Re: The YouTube thread [2]
I have a serious addiction to youtube. It's worse than my Little Debbie cupcakes affliction.
I'll go through phases. Sometimes it's food like Max Miller's Tasting History and then there's some guy doing american recipes from the 18th century (Townsend's). I'll get on history kicks with all kinds of things. Mythvision does dissection of the New Testament to demonstrate that it's persuasive literature rather than anything resembling reporting. The science and math out there is incredible, many by 20 and 30 somethings who have clearly devoted their careers to this line of work and have whole production teams behind them.
On a related note Netflix recently expanded it's Ottoman series to look at the deep relationship between Mehmet the Conqueror and Vlad the Impaler. Who knew?

{{ Im a bit like Halfy, but without the cupcake addiction, substitute the buckie I go through phases of different stuff, currently my top 5 are a complete nutter (in my view) who goes out and finds mainly venomous spiders and then gets them to bite him for science!

This ones an odd one, in that I dont actually watch for the guy doing the commentary on it although he is fine, I just prefer to make my own mind up. But he often has the clips from UK political things that either dont turn up on mainstream news, or if they did its there and gone, and noone else seems to pick up on it. So I just jump to the clips mostly.

I'm a Patreon to this one, this is my comfort Tv show, when I'm in the long dark teatime of the soul, this is what helps brings me out of it. The new episodes are as good in content as the old, but the classic series stuff just got that magic blend of people that made it so comforting, uplifting in a quiet gentle way, and informs as it does so. Its basically the perfect show for a long, dark, wet winter Sunday afternoon.

I'd also second some of Figgs, particularly Jools Tours, he's only not on my list because I havent watched any in a bit ( I like to get 2 or 3 built up to binge). Same goes with a few history channels like History with Kayleigh-

and Mininuteman

I also check out lot of Who channels of course and a bunch of gaming stuff which Ive left off the list as they are ones I go to all the time, though I will give second shout out on here to The Laughing Simon, its Skyrim, its in VR, its painfully Scottish at times with very Scottish humour and its one of the few gaming channels that can make a crabbit old bastard like me laugh out loud. }}

I don't know if you get Little Debbie in the UK. Simple knock-off of Hostess, but richer and more satisfying. Chock full of saturated fat and preservatives, so you can get your chocolate-sugar coma now or 6 months from now with no discernable loss of moistness or quality.
