Wait - just noticed you posted Warhol as a modern master. You actually giving the punk some credence? I'm sort of surprised.

I am more interested in the way he created an atmosphere of creativity around him, Nico and the velvet underpants, Lou Reed, and all those Boho's floating around at that time in The Factory. I certainly don't think he was a master, but he was very clever at self promotion and I find that interesting.

So if you like Warhol you go to a shopping centre and if you like Manet you visit a beautiful woman and observe her in various stages of mood and dress. Warhol the industrialist? Manet the ecological? I know who I prefer.

Re: Mrs Figg's Art History Thread
Hey I went to art college! - well ok not exactly, it was a college, just, and I did art at it, including art history, when we weren't in the pub - and I have spent the decades since drinking very hard in attempt to forget most of it last thing I need is Figg going about the place reminding me of it- what else might I remember for that time!!

There is more! This is a fascinating doco but shame it's not all here!!!!!
Turner whether intentionally or not painted quite romantic images of the new industrial world, while Warhol's industrial world is not so much clinical as lifeless.

Rothko seems overhyped to me. As if everyone is afraid to admit they don't see anything and hide it by extolling his concepts. The emperor has no clothes.
