Oxonmoot Empty Oxonmoot

Post by Tinuviel Thu Jun 25, 2015 7:07 pm

Have any of you ever been to Oxonmoot? It's hosted by the Tolkien society every year at Oxford. I'll be close so I'm wondering if I should check it out!

Never been, haven't looked at the link, I just think it sounds greats and you should go. It's what royals do, they go places and represent... places. And tell their not so brave and/or fortunate forumdwellers what happened afterwards.

Damn silly question if you ask me.  Of COURSE you should check it out!  Mad   And as Amarie pointed out, as our Queen you have a moral duty to represent us.

It's like walking past the Eagle and Child and wondering if you should go in and have a pint. Rolling Eyes

Go for it Yer Maj! You might never get the chance again. And you can get buckie there (well probably, they might be a bit snobby about it in Oxford or do something weird with it, like use it as a table wine instead of guzzling the whole thing in one, straight from the bottle) sadly not proper Rasberry Buckie Yer Maj, but you cant blame them for that they are English and mortals.

As we're on the topic of "So you're going, right? Right!" why haven't any of the Brits gone? It's just a train ride from London.

Might just be a train ride from London but its another country from Glasgow- not sure how welcome I'd be in England right now in my kilt waving buckie about (also the very cheapest train fare I can find is just shy of 80 quid- I can fly to another country for less than that Mad )

Go for it Tin! As the others have said, its your royal duty to represent Forumshire (though I wouldn't be surprised if we already have a reputation of sorts in the Tolkien Fandom...)

I actually live a couple of hours way from Oxford by Train Sofa

I would be in the UK then and would defo like to go to Oxford for one day, but I would be totally useless as far as the Moot goes. I don't like being stuck inside listening to lectures, I would be wandering about Oxford wanting to look at shops and cafes, so I would probably get on your nerves.

I wouldn't want to waste all my time in the moot while in Oxford either. Half day per day at most. If I was delivering a paper I'd feel more compelled to stick around, but I'd just be there for whatever.

Okay, I figure it will cost me about $300 + plane fare to attend Oxonmoot. This gets me 2 nights in the dorms, a banquet and a T-shirt, plus spending money. If Tin and one other Brit (or a Norwegian, I'm not picky) decides to make the trip, I'm in. But decide in the next couple weeks, I want to grab cheap fares.
