I must admit I do like looking at your snow pics, probably enjoying it more or, at least appreciating it if not a little envious because we just dont get snow, & when we do its often a flurry & its gone.

I guess here it's just normal. To the point one should think it was mundane. But I think one of my favourite things about this country is that we have taken something that elsewhere is seen as nothing but a nuisance and a problem and turned it into something fun and exciting. A center for existence and activity for four five months of the year. Like, the snow is there either way. One doesn't have to enjoy it.

I posted these in the ToH thread, but I guess they fit in well with the snow picture theme.

It was raining here for most of the day yesterday, but in the early hours of the AM it switched to snow and has since been coming down pretty heavily. The last estimate I heard was 6-10 inches (15-25 cm), which would be the biggest snowfall we've had this year, though we had one almost as big about a week or so ago that still hadn't completely melted, even with the rain. Fortunately I wasn't on the schedule for work today, though part of me wishes that the snow had fallen such that it would have given me an extra day off. Though of course having money is nice too.

It's getting definitely spring-y here. We still have some snow down here, but it's melting. Those pictures were taken pretty high up. I always miss winter when it ends, but I guess there's always summer to look forward to.

Yeah, it's great. Employers and schools don't want to risk people getting hurt traveling.  Although in retail there's also the consideration that far fewer customers will come to the store, so it might not be worth the payroll to keep it open on a really bad weather day. Although it's more frequent for them to just open late, which I think is what happened today.

Fjordlandians just can't catch a break.

We did use to get sent home from school though, when the classrooms got below 15 degrees or something. So, it's not that extreme here. If you were going to shut everything down for a bit of snow though, everything would be closed for 4 or 5 months, half the year up north.

Do you guys not have central heating?

I'm sure you guys learn to get around outside in the snow out of necessity though, for the reasons you mention.

Naah it's just a rule, but we don't mind. Just like if the power is gone we're sent home. Heating? Yes. Good isolated buildings? No.

I guess attitudes towards heating are different over here. Very few people here would ever let their indoor temperatures get to 15 C.
