Not a classic Final not an awful one.
Great goal from the Germans when it came though, well worked, great cross ball, excellent first touch, teed it up perfectly for himself and finished it sweetly- cant ask for more.

They deserved to win it for their performance overall in the tournament, they were the best team.

Not that I have anything to compare it to, but I had a blast for the past month watching the World Cup. It's like everything I always wanted the Olympics to be, but weren't (sort of). Very Happy I'm not sure yet if I'm gonna try watching Major League Soccer or the upcoming Premier League season, but I'm already marking Euro 2016 on my calendar. Razz

I have never watched any MLS but there are a few good players over there. A lot of European league players go to the MLS to finish their careers and a lot of the time they are still in good form. For example, it looks like Frank Lampard is heading over to the U.S. and he had a good season with Chelsea despite his age.

People (here anyway) always say that the Premier League is the best league in the world. I agree with that and not because it has the best teams (I would say we are third in that table) but because it is very competitive. It is worth watching but as always, there will be some very boring games.

Well done Glasgow- the Commonwealth opening ceremony has been a mix of madness, nonsense, embarrassing things devised by drunks in the small hours of the morning and so camp even John Barrowman looked straight next to it, but at heart it was was about being inclusive and welcoming and having a party.  cheers  drunken

Welcome to Scotland Commonwealth! Have a great time and a great games!  drunken

(And a great idea to incorporate a fund raising element for children across the Commonwealth into the ceremony)

Um, since when is that legal in football? Kicking the ball while lying on the ground?

Kicking the ball while lying on the ground?- Forest

You can kick the ball from any position just so long as you dont use your hands or arms to control it.

Actually she sailed a little close to the wind at the start and I thought for a brief horrible moment she was going to lose the crowd, some of what she said seemed to have possible connotations in reference to the referendum- and no matter where people stood in that stadium tonight on that one, tonight was not the occasion for any hint of referendum politics.

I'm actually a little surprised that the Commonwealth Games is being broadcast on TV in the US at all, but it's only as two hours of daily highlights each evening on a minor cable channel.  Fortunately, they seem to have a pretty robust YouTube presence, though.  The entire opening ceremony is up, and while it's too long to watch right now, I hope that means there will be lots of events making their way online.

Well day 1 over and England lead the pack with 17 medals including 6 gold.

But not a bad day for the host nation either, we are 3rd in the table picking up 10 medals including 4 gold. We had a particularly good day in the judo.

Twisted Evil We are.

Isnt that what the scots do to get served in the Buckie store or chip shop ? - Azriel

Well yes, but disgracefully the Games apparently count buckie as a drug Shocked  and wont let the athletes have a proper skin full before a fight.  Evil or Very Mad

Our athletes are national heroes- not for their sport, but because in order to pass the test they have to give up buckie months in advance to get it out their system. Brings a tear to my eye what they put themselves through for their nation.  Sad

They dont screw around in the Commonwealth Games.

I was particularly proud during the opening ceremony when during this ridiculously camp homage to marriage broadcast live across the Commonwealth, most of whom shoot homosexuals as a sport, John Barrowman did this- and no its not spontaneous it was part of the choreography which makes it even better (although I am surprised to learn there actually was a choreographer to that routine!).
And I hope he got his husbands permission first.

Onto Day 4 of the Games- with a very successful start for the home nation- we've nabbed 11 gold medals in the first three days, which equals our previous best in any Games  cheers

Leaves us a respectable 3rd on the medal table, with England 2 and those bloody Aussies 1st as usual! (What do they put in their prawns?)

Been all sorts of stuff going on around the games too, including yesterday a flotilla that sailed from this end of the river right up into the city-
