well, my history teacher can tell.. if students smile they're not talking notes

oo! Fun stuff. I'm off for a ski trip this weekend, but if you have any questions get them in by thursday.
Relativity in High School? Too cool. I only got the chance to teach that for a couple years before they eliminated the advanced classes as the population grew and they couldn't afford to tie me up teaching electives that only a few would take. I taught quantum and everything.
skiiing so jelous
relativity is fun but confuuuuuusing i'll ask if i have something on my mind
wait, what is a myon?
Re: what can be done about poverty?
Never heard of myons. Are you sure?
Okay, if you want to make the teacher squirm, ask about the twin paradox (assuming this hasn't been brought up already).
One twin takes off at close to light speed, travels to a star 20 light years away, and comes back nearly un-aged because when travelling near the speed of light time slows down. The second twin will look about 40 years older.
But if motion is relative it will look like the earth sped away from the travelling twin, so everyone on earth should look older. How can both be true?
The resolution is that it is not symmetrical because one twin accelerated while the other did not. Most physics teachers will be aware of this. Then you spring the trap: what if the acceleration is done all in 5 minutes? Will this make 20 years of difference? Even knowing that acceleration acts like a gravity field that makes time slow down I still have problems explaining this. I'd be curious to know if someone else can do a good job with it.

Re: what can be done about poverty?
yepp.. that's what we have been talking about for two weeks the twin paradox
and calculating the lorentx factor of how much longer it'll be on earth than in the spaceship also about length and stuff
we're deep in Einsteins postulates, the general and the special

Re: what can be done about poverty?
btw, i know what a myon is, just wanted to test u it's a foton that for a split second has mass, so it has a mass and a time factor thing and one can calculate kgm/s (dunno the english term, bevegelsesmasse)

I didn't read that as "postulates" the first time.

Its a wibbly-wobbly ball of timey-whimey stuff

Re: what can be done about poverty?
I should have paid better attention in physics.
Good work on the Pan thing. I really like Pan. It's a bit strange, but wonderful. And it's set up somewhere north, isn't it?

Re: what can be done about poverty?
Why would a photon momentarily have mass?
Oh, and I made a mistake -gravity makes things speed up, not slow down: the accelerating twin will see the rest of the universe as having a gravitational field so it speeds up. More acceleration, more speed up in time.
You get two whole weeks (or more) to talk about relativity? Sweet. Confusing though. Relativity is actually not complex, it's just so different from what we are used to that it's hard to follow.

Re: what can be done about poverty?
Yes, Muons can take on mass, not photons. Good catch, Eldo.

yes, north, not as far north as where i am, but pretty far north midnight sun and all
I RECOMEND THE BOOK THOUGH! IT'S REALLY GOOD WRITING AND THE MAIN CHARACTER IS REALLY RELATABLE! KNUT HAMSUN PAN
Re: what can be done about poverty?
yeah, phsics are fun, but confusing but i think i get it.. some of it.
Re: what can be done about poverty?
And I would recommend reading it in Norwegian.

it's rather good in english too.
Re: what can be done about poverty?
AAAAND! this, ladies and gentlemen, is how u fucking norc a thread.
Re: what can be done about poverty?
Does it count as Norcing if it's your own thread? Genuine question.
Re: what can be done about poverty?
no. it doesn't. because it was originally about how to end poverty and i wasn't really with u guys on that discussion
((secret, nnorcing is just dramatically changing the subject to something that pleases u, like now, we're talking about my school stuff and f´physics )))

Re: what can be done about poverty?
Hey, I've been with this thread from the beggining.
Norcing and all.
Norcing and all.
