Yule Blessings
By WinterSky
To one and all I send to you,
Blessings on this day.
Wishing joy and merriment,
May it always come your way.
As you light the Yule log fire,
And the candles are all a-glow,
Be thankful for what you've reaped this year,
And all you've grown to Know!
As you bid farewell to the Holly King,
Under his blanket of snow,
Open your arms to the Oak King,
For the light he will bestow.

That was pretty straight-ahead, heartfelt, and even sociable acceptable, Chris. Are you sure everything's okay?

I was about to say something very physics climate geeky about the solstice I just realized, but will squelch it and just wish everyone a happy shortest day of the year. The ice cube dwellers will probably be happy to have it behind them.

Re: Just...................whatever [3]
While the winter solstice is celebrated on the 21. I think the day with the least light is actually the 22.
Still, I'm guessing I'm not the only one who will be happy about the fact that's it's starting to get lighter.

It's off by a day? The earth needs a tune-up.

Re: Just...................whatever [3]
Well, it's supposedly the darkest day of the year.
But I agree that the darkness can get a bit monotunous.
At least it'll be a little lighter every day now, instead of the opposite. That has got to be a good thing.

Re: Just...................whatever [3]
I didn't realize there was that much wobble from year to year. Am I reading this right? Sometimes the shortest daylight is 18 minutes long, sometimes it's about 3 seconds long? If it weren't for the future cast I'd say it's a light meter being affected by cloud cover, not an astronomical day. Year to year variations in daylight should be on the order of seconds, not minutes. This really doesn't seem right to me!

Just found this, never heard of it, but it's pretty funny.

Garfield Minus Garfield is a site dedicated to removing Garfield from the Garfield comic strips in order to reveal the existential angst of a certain young Mr. Jon Arbuckle. It is a journey deep into the mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against loneliness and depression in a quiet American suburb.

Wow, that's certainly a moment to capture.
Do you have some sort of celebration around then?

That sounds nice.
I'm sure it doesn't make up for the lack of light, but still it's something to look forward too.
