Re: Horses in middle earth
I think I'd call that a sorrel because of the red tones with lighter mane and tail. But there are terms like golden chestnut that overlap, or are different in other regions.

Re: Horses in middle earth
RIP to Uraeus (Brego) the horse, who was bought by Viggo Mortensen after the filming of LOTR and has now passed away at the age of 28.

Beautiful creature, hopefully Viggo gave him a very happy last few years.

Re: Horses in middle earth
I know it's not in the books, but that scene where Brego is standing over his fallen master, nuzzling him, always chokes me up.

It might be my immaturity speaking, but I always giggle over the cut from Aragorn dreaming of being kissed by Arwen to actually being kissed by a horse.
Re: Horses in middle earth
Horses can actually be fantastic kissers

Re: Horses in middle earth
I was out with a friend today & as we were at a carpark we heard the clippity clop of horses approaching. Suddenly there were a pair of beautiful Shires in all their finery, they were lovely ! plaited tails & manes, the jingle of harness, plumes, the lot They had a feed & a bucket of water, peed all over the carpark & clipped off

I hear they're fond of certain kinds of vegetables.

I'm 23 and you made me so don't feel too bad.
That scene has always cracked me up, too cheesy to be fun (ironically being one of the most dangerous to film, Mortensen almost drowned floating down the river)
