That sounds awful- Teen Wolf 2 was bad enough.

No- the original was full of humour and charm. This looks like its full of cliche with effects stolen from An American Werewolf in London- in fact go it watch instead, its much better.

Il be up, floating about tonight, at the mo Im watching that new "OZ" film, wizard of oz, yellow brick rd thing, with James Franco. Its colourful, Il say that. childish ? so far....yes.

Well its prediciting 1hr 50 to upload- so thats 10pm- and takes anything from fifteen minutes to half an hour to encode.

Regards the falling with Balrog scene- my main problem with it is it tells the viewer Gandalf is stil alive long before his return- and ruins the set up PJ gives for Merry and Pippin being turned over to the 'white wizard' and his appearence to Aragorn and co- much better if Gandalf returns unheralded by the films opening shot!

Also the manner of my edits- where you can watch it all as one big 8 hour odd film means it goes form Frodo and Sam setting off into the Emyn Muil to the three hunters- it would be awkward to go to a Gandalf scene out of nowhere- Pj gets away with it as a film opening action sequence- but it still gives away Gandalfs return.

I dont think I cut any of that scene. Only thing I remember cutting was Merry's unnecessary pointing out of "the belt!" when the orc grabs Pippin.

I disagree that the prologue shows that Gandalf is still alive.  It ends with Gandalf and the Balrog falling into a giant lake after falling for thousands of feet.  There's no word one way or another on if he survived, much less that he'd come back as a White Wizard like Saruman.

If you want to talk about spoilers though, I always thought it was ridiculous that Gandalf (the White) was featured on the fucking posters for TTT.  Apparently no one in the marketing department had a thought to spare for the non-book reader audience.

Whilst I agree it doesnt give it away completely having a Gandalf reminder right at the start is a pretty hefty clue he is returning later in the film.
But mainly it was for pacing, and it works fine and more naturally for me as part of Gandalfs account to Aragorn and co of what happened.

And yeah, the posters a bit of a spoiler!

I thought the reveal of Gandalf the White was handled poorly on just about every level, so I won't go too far out of my way to defend PJ's decisions on that front, but I think the Gandalf vs. Balrog scene was one of the highlights of the entire trilogy. I understand your point about pacing, though.
