Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
As more episodes come in on Netflix I will re-evaluate Arya's expressiveness.
As for the other actors, my impressions may stem from my insistence that I watch this particular show with a tankard of ale at my elbow.

I agree! And I have a feeling Arya will start to grow on you, too

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
she is definately a cute kid, but not exactly on Haley Joel Osment levels of cute and scarily good acting. I have a problem with facial expressions, I dont know why but I have always been acutely aware of when things seem 'real', I can tell the differing facial expressions and nuanced levels of irritation of my cat, so when it comes to humans it kind of socks me in the mush when its not right, there is a deadness in the eyes in bad acting, and I can tell when its just rehersed and when its acting that is felt in some way. I think Game of Thrones is a good atmospheric piece though.

I see what your saying, but i think the character of Arya will grow on you, regardless of the acting!

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
ok saw the 3rd and 4th episodes last night, and you were right Arya is getting good, poor little thing is in a bit of a pickle at the moment, why do all the men protecting her die?
as for Danaeris and the Monty Python city gates delegation, well, it looked good.
Joffrey yuck he is so evil.
The red wizardess needs a slap.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
saw the 5th and 6th episodes last night. Arya is getting interesting, I like her freaky assasin friend, he is very useful to have as a mate in a pinch.
Danaeris is getting more silly and squeaky, just not convincing at all. Like her blue dress though.
Tyrion, always great to watch.
whats Anne Boleyn from The Tudors doing here with a fright wig?
whatshisface, the one that looks like Howard from Take That? he is going to get his comeuppance soon and its going to be messy.

7th and 8th episodes tonight. Howard from Take That getting even nastier, no sign of comeuppance. Jon Snow has found himself a girlfriend, a furry one. I do like this series, it looks great.
oh and Cersei has had some industrial strength botox since the 1st season.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
Its a pity there are only two episodes left, I really enjoy it, its high quality stuff apart from the botox faces, I even looked on GOT websites to see if its only me that thinks so, but I was relieved to see that others share my opinions on the lack of emoting in some of the characters.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
I believe that they're going to start filming season 3 in Northern Ireland this July, covering roughly the first half of the third book.
Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
For those who still don't acknowledge the quality of the writing in the books, I offer this nugget (since the HBO series came out I reacquired the books and read a chapter each night):
"Every once in a very long while, Lord Tywin Lannister would actually threaten to smile; he never did, but the threat alone was terrible to behold."
I'd match that one sentence up against anything found anywhere.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
I think the books are high quality indeed, they are just like wading through medieval mud, heavygoing and with an unpleasant squidgy feeling between the toes as you stand on something yucky.
good though, Tyrian has all the best dialogue.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
Yes, it is indeed, and Wodehouse is one of my favorites. On first reading he put me off a bit as over stylized, but once you accept the Wodehouse world it's an unforgettable ride.
I do have to admit that GRRM doesn't have his own distinctive writing style, it's more a smooth amalgam of many different competent styles. His writing can only be recognized after reading enough to see what he does with story arcs and the characters embedded in them. Highly complex, highly realistic, hard to put down once you've read enough for the hooks to be embedded and there's no escape.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
Hey, it's the wooden eyeball guy from Pirates of the Caribbean!
Good to see him still getting work.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
Do you mean Mckenzie Crook Eldo? If so he is a bit more than that- he's one the UK's best young actors. Made his name in the public eye playing Gareth Keenan in The Office.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
Yeah, that's the guy. I just immediately thought of POTC since I love those films more than is healthy.
I really need to watch The Office (UK version, that is) sometime. First Bilbo, now eyeball guy... I've liked Ricky Gervais from what I've seen of him in both films and stand-up, too.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
Whilst the US Office is quite good, like most things, the original is better.
