We are predicted a few light snow showers down here, but after last time I'm not sure whether to trust the weather predictions...

Well, I wont care, IL be in my rabbit hole of a clapped out ground floor flat Very Happy Hot tea, cuddly duvet & a good film on TV Very Happy

I love that last pic very much Very Happy We get quite a bit of fog & mist coming over The Downs. It can often blanket everything out, bloody cold as well. Those pics remind me of that TV prog..."Robin of Sherwood" & then I hear Clannad singing the theme tune Very Happy

I'm glad that I've seen that show and understand the reference to it. Smile

That second-to-last shot looks like something from one of your game mods Petty.

My dad and step-mom decided to get even more chickens again this year but I have to admit that they're cute when they (and their shits) are small. From left to right here we have War Eagle, Butter, Starfire, and Raven. Though I might have gotten the middle two mixed up; Butter and Starfire are the same breed and I can't tell them apart very well.

That name was my idea. Razz It was a bit of a roundabout process: her breed is Rhode Island Red but I think she looks more auburn, which reminded me that the slogan for Auburn University (at least in athletics) is War Eagle, and the idea of a chicken named War Eagle seemed too good to pass up. Honestly I expected it to be vetoed, but my stepmom was amused by it too. Very Happy

Meanwhile Butter is named after the Indian dish butter chicken. My dad picked that name, but it fits well with the names I gave some of the older chickens: Nugget, General Tso, and Colonel (as in Sanders). The other two new ones are named after Teen Titans characters, which was my step-mom's idea.

If only they knew you were naming them after chicken dishes. Surprised Sort of twisted in a way if you think about it.

Naming chickens?
!

Oh, are these more the egg-laying type and less the raise them-for-several-months-and-then-eat-them type?

They're for eggs, yeah, at least ostensibly. My stepmom (who is the main reason we have them) considers them more like pets than anything else and was clear from the beginning that they were not for eating even after they stop laying. It's become sort of a suburban fad in recent years. I used to work with some people who were at least as enthusiastic about and emotionally attached to backyard chickens as most cat and dog owners I know are to their pets.

So long as you don't actually buy a rooster I suppose chickens are no different from outdoor cats.

You can milk the goats (but they can get loud and poop everywhere) but as a vegetarian what would you do with pigs? Just pets?
