I may have a similar problem since I leave freakishly early as well. I've checked and either I have to arrive 2 hours before it leaves, or less than one hour before. I'll admit to considering keeping to the windy side of care so I can get a little sleep at least.

starting to regret it though cus i am really tired and my bed looks tempting

at the airport and i am soooo tired, but i was met by the fucking nicest taxi-driver ever! he was so cheerful and stopped the taxameter waaaaaay before we were there! so i paid the minimum prize (which in freezing fjordianland is still a lot) and then when we got to the bus-stop where the airport bus stops (lol) the bus was actually arriving, so he made me pay in the car, parked in front of the stop so basically forcing the bus to stop (although there were snow-trucks so it was driving slowly behind them but it is funnier if you picture it like an action movie), and like he jumped out and got my suitcase and wooop woooop! merry fucking christmas! also.. the 10 minute taxi-drive cost the same as the 25-minute bus-drive with a two-way ticked. just saying. it's expensive here..

Sounds like a remarkably smooth trip so far for the Christmas season.

Realistically I'm hoping at best to just stabilize the current shoreline long enough to get salt tolerant vegetation started again, and then encourage a new barrier sand dune to serve in the place of the one we lost years ago. Re-extending would probably require playing with forces that are a lot bigger than what I'm looking at now (like tsunamis and such. ) Also, the laws are written so it's very hard to protect new lands and shorelines until they get some kind of legal standing. This keeps people with too much money from building their own private islands, or artificially filling and moving an existing beach for their own benefit. That's not a game I'm likely to be playing.

Ah, that makes sense. I hope that you're able to get some vegetation growing to start holding things down in the near(ish) future, then.

2 fucking hours! and with a landing in between .... i hate it... but i have noise canceling headphones so i guess i survived..

Infiltrating the permitting process for placing any kind of rock on or near the beach has been a lo-o-o-ong process. I only cracked the code a few months ago, and we finally got a scattering of cobble at the foot of the bank below Tom's house 3 weeks ago. It's not much, maybe the equivalent of a single watered down coat of paint, but it's more than Tom and Bo have had before and it gives hope. Till now they've been having to make do by dragging logs around by hand or with a come-along and lashing them together with old rope.

There are many influences, both natural and man-made, including dams on rivers to the south, planting of non-native vegetation to stabilize sand dunes to the north, dredging shipping channels to the east. However there's been more land lost since World War II than in the previous 1000 years, so that seems to point to the hand of man. Of course only Eru truly knows these things.

How do we know where the shoreline was 1000 years ago? With quiet lake sedimentation that's one thing, but with wave action I can't imagine how anyone could figure that out.

Here we have Cascadia Subduction Zone 9.0 earthquakes and 50ft tsunamis every 300 to 700 years or so that leave marks that are pretty hard to miss. We don't do subtle geology here.
