{{{Ok so just listened to Trump's foreign policy speech (using I note a prepared speech and a teleprompter- was he not lambasting Hilary for that just the other day?) the bare bones of it are- make NATO allies pay more or they get no US protection (does he know how NATO works?- America might be its leader but in order for it to do America any good the missiles ect need to be in Europe, they are no good in America, and for countries to have your nukes they have to be part of NATO- all he is proposing is losing all of the US defensive forward missiles bases in one stroke and disarming Europe- meaning countries might start getting their own nukes instead and we have a European arms race or alternatively it leaves Europe with no nuclear defence strategy (this seems unlikely- more likely European countries will form their own equivalent to NATO without the US in it, and all that means is the US has no influence any more in Europe militarily and therefore less politically), he wants to get out of Korea too- a move likely to plunge that area into instability, further damaging the global economy, and therefore the US, whilst at the same time losing all influence in another region and essentially handing it over to China in the long term. Lastly he thinks the US should be friends with Putin and Xi Jinping- good luck with Trump coming out on top there- they know what they are doing!}}}}

I think Trump is speaking to the isolationists there. They're pretty much the US equivalent to, and have the same logic as the Brexit-ists in the UK as far as I can make out.

I can understand the frustration with a lot of European NATO countries not pulling their weight financially speaking, but needless to say, Trump's proposed cure is far worse than the "ailment".

There are so many reasons to, so I have adopted this as a stock response to Donald Trump.

Have to give Ted Cruz credit for sticking in there without losing his cool. In fact I have to admit he destroyed the guy (though said guy never realized it).

{{He kept his cool better than I would- that smug smile is asking to be wiped off, but then thats what its trying to do, antagonize. But there seems to be a lot of that mindset and mentality at the Trump rallies I have watched. That doesn't bode well no mater what happens.}}}

I don't like Cruz, but I wouldn't want to go up and be an ass to him. Let him lose on his own, don't bring yourself down with him.

I'm so happy that Glenn Beck isn't taken seriously by anyone anymore.

Kinda shocked that Cruz conceded so early. I agreed that Indiana was his do-or-die moment but thought it would take at the very least a day or two to sink in, assuming he wasn't still gunning for the convention fuckery option. Pleasantly surprised that he decided to do the decent thing, even if it's probably only because he realized the alternative was no longer even remotely workable.

Not only did Trump win in a field nearly three times the size of the Democratic one, he dispatched his last meaningful rival before Hillary did the same (although Bernie is still not going to be the nominee, despite his win tonight).

Should be an interesting general. Odds of a third-party conservative candidate seem low given how all of the #NeverTrump people seem to have thrown in the towel. Trump actually did it. He completed a hostile takeover of the Republican Party.

What a year.

Congratulations to the GOP establishment, I suppose. They had to choose between the guy they fear might destroy their party and the guy they loathe more than anyone in the world. Doesn't seem to have been a hard choice for most of them. Though it remains an open question if they could have denied the Donald even if they had presented a united front.

I guess I'll have to stop making this joke now, but once more for the road:

Wow. Just wow. No chance of a contested convention. Trump is the presumtive nominee. I thought Cruz would stay in just to make life interesting.

Now it comes down to, who can resist the entertainment of President Trump?

It's a total tossup. I don't even have a clue how I will vote: jaded sanity or juvenile explosions? The slack-jawed unreality of Trump is seductive. tough call.

I'm serious here. The GOP's post mortem of 2012 concluded that the party needed to do more to appeal to minorities and women. Trump has only dug that hole deeper, which makes the GOP's demographic challenge that much more insurmountable. Not to mention that they currently have a built-in electoral college disadvantage.
