Donald Trump wrote:As far as the cyber, I agree to parts of what Secretary Clinton said. We should be better than anybody else, and perhaps we're not. I don't think anybody knows it was Russia that broke into the DNC. She's saying Russia, Russia, Russia, but I don't -- maybe it was. I mean, it could be Russia, but it could also be China. It could also be lots of other people. It also could be somebody sitting on their bed that weighs 400 pounds, OK? You don't know who broke in to DNC.

But what did we learn with DNC? We learned that Bernie Sanders was taken advantage of by your people, by Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Look what happened to her. But Bernie Sanders was taken advantage of. That's what we learned.

Now, whether that was Russia, whether that was China, whether it was another country, we don't know, because the truth is, under President Obama we've lost control of things that we used to have control of. We came in with the Internet, we came up with the Internet, and I think Secretary Clinton and myself would agree very much, when you look at what ISIS is doing with the Internet, they're beating us at our own game. ISIS.

So we have to get very, very tough on cyber and cyber warfare. It is -- it is a huge problem. I have a son. He's 10 years old. He has computers. He is so good with these computers, it's unbelievable. The security aspect of cyber is very, very tough. And maybe it's hardly doable. But I will say, we are not doing the job we should be doing. But that's true throughout our whole governmental society. We have so many things that we have to do better, Lester, and certainly cyber is one of them.

Though I have to admit, when I was trying to think of a foreign leader I admired I had the same blankness.  Merkel was a good call.  Who's that other guy?

{{{ Well that was a better debate than the Presidential one.
Pence carries himself well and comes across much better than Trump- his main problem is that he doesn't seem to be promoting the same policies as the person he is vice president to! }}}

I was watching the Orioles lose in the AL Wild Card game so I missed the debate. Though based on what I'm reading about it I'm not sure if watching that instead would have been an improvement. Suspect

I was this guy a few times last summer, but after his comments about McCain and POWs failed to put a dent in his support, I was pretty sure that Trump was going to sink his campaign by saying outrageous stuff. That said, this time does seem genuinely different in the number of GOP figures now abandoning Trump. I dunno if it's the timing or what because he's said stuff this bad and worse so many times before, but it's probably best not to look a gift horse in the mouth too much, at least not in October. Razz

I'm glad that Larry Hogan (Maryland's GOP governor) never endorsed Trump.

Why I (and a lot of people) supported Trump in the primary was because he represented throwing a wrench into the corrupt system. It didn't matter who it was, it just happened to be Trump. Seems we've been hoisted by our own petard.

I don't think I'll ever vote again.

@Eldo How does a Republican governor get elected in Maryland?

FYI this is an honest question, not the set up for a lame joke. Which is what it sounded like when I re-read my post.

I wasn't there to see it happen, but the more local you get, the less partisan things become. Any politician who actually gets things done will be elected without regard to party affiliation if what they are doing is actually closer to the people than Washington.

I was thinking it might have something to do with whether or not the election was during a mid-term election, which might have higher GOP turn out. In my experience people have always been fiercely partisan.

I've considered Tim Pawlenty's victories in MN an aberration of the Bush years, but with Pawlenty winning by slim margins during the midterms. Jesse was our "Trump moment" and Arne Carlson was essentially a democrat.

I truly believe Mark Dayton is either constantly drunk or suffered a severe stroke in the recent past.

{{It was a valid reason. American politics has become corrupt over the decades, particularly between big business, corporation and state- this is true across western democracy- hence Brexit, hence the rise of a variety of anti-establishment parties in those areas. America is the centre of the tornado however as its the centre of capitalism and globalization. Dollars pave the way globally. And as a result its also the most corrupt.

The problem was not the reason for voting Trump, its that the choice you got for that type of candidate was Trump.
Clinton has so many chinks in her armour politically that any halfway competent politician who had run and stood as senator could take her down right now.
This election should not even be close because the Democrats have such a flawed candidate myriad in scandals.
Its just somehow the Republicans choose worse. }}}

surely 'Christian' conservative Republicans cannot afford to support Trump publicly without looking like they are condoning the 'immorality' of their leader? surely Pence cant continue to support Trump given his family values shtick. I mean you cant bang on about morality if your leader is grabbing ladies front bottoms willy nilly. call me old fashioned.
