Re: Music [3]
Yeah, they're pretty cool. I stumbled across them as someone described them as a more accesible version of Fleet Foxes. (Big surprise, I know. )
I found their first album a bit dull, but I really like the second one. Which those two, and this song is from.

Re: Music [3]
They're not Fleet Foxes. As in, I don't see them as very original. Funnily enough they sound a bit like an amalgamation fo a several things I've heard recently, but for what they are I really like them.

Re: Music [3]
So I was walking around the mall today and I saw that they had an FYE music store, which surprised me because I thought those had all closed ages ago (the one near me did like eight years ago). I went in more for old time's sake than anything else but they had a ton of really cheap CDs and lately I've been wishing I had my old CD collection with me to listen to in the car (since I just bought one of my own last month), so I picked up a whole bunch today. Mainly hip hop because I didn't start listening to that genre until after I stopped buying CDs, so I didn't have any before now. I already have a ton of rock (especially classic rock) CDs that I will hopefully be reunited with soon.

Re: Music [3]
I guess that's 65 000 001 copies of Thriller sold then.
It's strange how seldom one buys physical copies of music anymore. I tend to get the cd when I come across something I really like. (Mostly as gifts to everyone I know, but still. )

Re: Music [3]
My current purchases of CD's have been all from live performers that I buy straight from them. They haven't dropped in price quite the way records did when CD's took over (that was a goldmine: for a few years you could buy great stuff at 3 for a dollar, but now the prices have gone back up to several dollars a pop). I keep waiting for vintage CDs to drop to a dollar a piece, but so far no luck.

Re: Music [3]
Yeah, buying from live performers, at concerts and so on can be pretty good actually. Particularily when you realize that a lot of the great musicians of the world doesn't necessarily play for large audiences.
Other than that, music as a economic commodity has become a bit of an illusion in this day and age. I think it was interesting that Mick Jagger said he was lucky, as he played and released music in the 30 years of history musicians actually made money.

Re: Music [3]
If the music could stay locked into a payment system and if the payment system would actually pay the performers a decent cut instead of the distributors, this problem would be solved. Itunes, Pandora etc should have options to deal directly with the musicians...this would whip the distributors into line pretty fast.

Re: Music [3]
It'll be very interesting to see which direction it goes, as I guess traditional distribution will become pretty much obsolete at some point. But at least the days of hundreds of employees and private jets are over for the record companies. It got so much of an industry for a while that the art became very secondary. It's interesting that that seems to be having a bit of a resurgence with the economic decline of the industry.

Yeah, I had basically completely written off the concept of physical media for music until last month when I bought my first car and started wishing I had CDs to play in it (it's a 2005 model and doesn't have Bluetooth). I'm actually upgrading the sound system and so I will have the option to use Bluetooth soon, but in my experience Pandora and iHeartRadio tend to play a lot of the same songs over and over on any given station (especially iHeartRadio), and I do really enjoy listening to the unified artistic statement that albums represent. I really wish that I still had an iPod with a ton of albums on it, but unfortunately my iPod Classic doesn't hold a charge anymore and they don't make those these days. It's nice having a larger collection of music on my computer to listen to offline, though, definitely.
Re: Music [3]
I've got thousands of cds... I love finding ones I like at Walmart cause most of them are in the 5 dollar bin. Mostly classic rock and metal, occasionally I find a good jazz disk or 80s pop one but, I prefer something in my hand that is mine. That way I have a hard copy as a backup

I feel the same way about hard copies of movies and TV, but for whatever reason it was only really recently that I (re)started thinking about music in that way.
Re: Music [3]
Can't believe I haven't heard this Dylan song before:
But then again, that's what's so fun about being a Dylan fan - he's like Johnny Cash, it doesn't matter how long you've listened to his music, there's always a surprise or two left for you to find

Re: Music [3]
I like that she takes a minute+ to get around to the chorus. One can get quite bored with alll the made for radio music. And the mixing norwegian and english too. Pretty brave.
