Petty's Purist LotR Edits [4]

I dont think it is narrative convenience- I think its just PJ not knowing when to withhold stuff and wanting to show you everything up front and explain everything before it happens.
In the film we find out who the Riders are, see them leaving Mordor with their orders, see them entering the Shire and beheading a hobbit and all before Frodo has even left Bag End.

I much prefer it in the book and purist edit where the first time you bump into the riders is on the road with the hobbits and they are a total unknown, makes them scarier (technically Gandalf in the book mentions the Nine in Shadows of the Past but almost in passing, it would be a hell of an astute reader that connected that brief mention to the Black Rider when it appears) and its not like the viewer is left in the dark for too long as Aragorn explains them at Bree.

Nice, Petty MKV should be supported by the new xbox now, so that means I can watch it on the TV without having to use my laptop

Sorry Ringo I ended up converting it to a H.264 as it was a couple gig smaller end file.
Although looking at the file properties Windows just classes it as an mp.4 so it might play anyway.

Just did a quick check and looks like should work ok-

That should play just fine It's still nice to be able to play mkv files on the xbox, though. Big fan of mkv because of the quality and small file sizes, but up until now I've only been able to play them with VLC. Let us know when it's ready to download

This is why I am such a crabbit bastard! THIS!!!! I just went to check the file before starting to upload and for reasons best known to its bloody self, my render program outputted not a single video file, but two files. One video, one audio.

I am going to have to work out what the problem is and then rerender the bloody thing overnight again.

No way to just combine the video and audio into a single file? Either way, that sucks?

Also, I'm pretty sure I've watched some of those clips on Dailymotion before. I think I had asked you to put them up there for ease of viewing (which I appreciate you having done, in case I forgot to thank you before).

They are more than clips Eldo- you can watch all of book 1- beginning to Ford.

Yeah, tinkering with well constructed narrative is not a good idea. Particularily if you have no regard for creating paradoxes and inconsistencies.

Good stuff Azriel- but heres the thing.
I will have tio upload them first.
There is a limit on length, they have to be under 1 hour. So its in 3 bits. 2 of 59 minutes. and 1 of 38 minutes.
And it will take 2-3 hours to upload each part I reckon.
And about 30minutes for Daily Motion to process it.

So bearing that in mind if I start uploading now part 1 will be up at about 5pmish. If I start at 4pm it will be about 7pmish ect.

Unfortunately there is a good chance they will get pulled for copyright pretty swiftly. That happened to the missing bits of the LotR's edits on there. Which means you really need to be ready to try to watch them as soon as they are uploaded.

So what is a good time for you to watch?

Ok part 1 is uploading now. It says it will take 3hrs 20 Probably 30 minutes to process to. So call it 4 hours. So about 6pm but hoping the upload speed might go up or the processing take less time, so just keep checking back in.

Wonder if the same will happen to the second part which is due up in a couple of hours- it has all but half an hour of DOS edit in it.

well that was a lot better Good job Petty, a bit easier to stomach than peejers full blown gumph. I still find it difficult to watch The Hobbit. Even with your edits its still like agreeing to having the soles of your feet shaved with a cheese grater. Thankgod some of the awful dialogue was squished out. Still dont like the way the Troll scene was handled. I would have really liked to have seen the play between Gandalf & the Trolls as he incites a row but, peejers knows best

Agree on the trolls, only so much I could do with what is there, sadly. Still at least the parasite nonsense is gone and the fight is less ridiculous and they say burahobbit again instead of burglahobbit.

On track to finish uploading at 9.30pm GMT just over half an hour.
