They do seem to find such spaces irresistible- you wouldn't think that would be a very solid evolutionary survival trait but there you go.
None of my lot can resist an empty box or even bag, they just have to get in there.
They also seem oblivious to personal peril. My smallest cat Sisko in the summer likes to go out the window and sit on the ledge, I'm a floor up, but it not just that he goes out there without concern, every so often he takes it into his head to go sit on the neighbors window ledge, by leaping across the gap between houses! Gives me near heart failure every time he does it
