Tell me about it Petty ! I had my Ludo neutered, even tho he's a boy, & he's the biggest bundle of mischief going ! Swings off my curtains & screams at me, dead on 7AM every morning for brekkies. His sister tho is really placid. She looks at him as tho to say "oh Ludo, grow up !" Very Happy

Trickier with the males though, if you dont get them done they will most likely spray and mark their territory

So you have less choice really unless you want that horrible cat spray smell in your house permanently.

As if I needed another cat, I must be bonkers but, Ive agreed to have the Tortoiseshell kitt, & its odd but, they are usually always female, weird that really ? I dont think any other colour variation is like that ?

I thought tortoiseshell were always female. I have one tortoiseshell, Dax, and she is definitely female (as Sisko is her kitten).

Rubbish, that is a myth which only leads to more cat being born for no good reason. Unless you have 3-5 people standing in line to adopt (or buy) the kittens you should have the cat fixed as soon as possible.

I agree - I don't see the point in it when you more often than not end up with the choice between five extra cats or sending the poor creatures to Belize, so to speak.

But its true, there's to many unhomed & dumped cats & dogs, in every country. Get your pet neutered, whether its a girl or boy, its heart breaking if they end up at the Vets.... & dont come back out ! Sad

Tho at least at an animal shelter they stand some chance.

I housed all of the kittens my cats had, and in fact still get to see quite a few of them from time to time. Not a single one went to a cat shelter.
Im not saying be irresponsible about it, make sure you can house them first. But I stand by the behavioural differences, I can see it in my own three, as well as in friends cats.

I am sure it changes them. But it is not a must to get a calm cat. And it is not a guaranteed method of getting them calm, you might instead breed 1-5 new nervous cats. My Xena is calm as they come and she never had a litter. You can add her to your list as the exception that proves the rule.

At least those are the ones someone cares about or knows about.
Every year there were two or more litters born somewhere around the farm, we'd see them now and then but couldn't get hold of them, and then occasionally we'd find what was left of them. So when the grand old cat lady of the barn hadn't been seen in ages and presumed dead, we got Xena (and her brother Conan, but he "went on holiday and haven't come back" as my little son says. Sad

) so we could have tame cats we could give vaccines and such.

Separation changes cats too, Xena got more sociable and a lot more vocal after Conan went missing.

Of course I sometimes think that to myself when I see a little kid capering around a grocery store or something, I figure if I was to have a kid why can't I just take that one home, who seems so entertaining and perfect? Skip all the rearing mess and just end up with what you want, no surprises.

Of course once I'd paid off the mum and made off with the kid, she'd scamper around the apartment a bit, then come back and look at me as if to say "what other entertainment have you got for me?" and I'd realize "shit, I've got a kid." pale
