Only 8 to go. Including my own area- but it will probably be late as we have loads of islands.

Not sure it will be worth staying up for sadly.

The BBC forecasts that Scotland has voted against becoming an independent country by a projected 55% to 45%.

I called it first.

Sadly looks like No so thats NO to an oil fund despite it being hugely sensible. And NO to getting rid of Trident. And NO to the end of the dominance of London and the service sector dominating the country and soaking up all the wealth. Mad

I'm sorry for you and the YES campaign, Petty. I hope that you guys are able to hold the Unionist parties to their promises for increased devolution. Personally I still think federalism is the most sensible solution, but whatever it is, I hope that it works out to the benefit of the people of Scotland.

I think people will rally together- but Westminster has to deliver now or there might be trouble.

As for me, I'm hugely disappointed, but I believe in democracy as the best way we have of doing these things.
The result is the result, now we have to work together to ensure we get more devolution.

Bungo- thats very true. And it has been a triumph for our democracy overall regardless of result.

Did London basically bribe everyone by promising more powers for Scotland if they voted "no"?

Yeah- in the last two weeks of the campaign. Each Westminster party came up with more powers and they set out a timetable to put them in place by January of next year.

Interesting discussion from the BBC panel over what influence pressure from Tory backbenchers might have on the promised (vague) powers.

"There's a sense that David Cameron ripped up the British constitution because of a YouGov poll."  Damn.

Yeah I can see trouble ahead on the Tory backbenches who werent happy about the promised extra powers at all.
And not only will any changes and extra powers need to get through the House of Commons they also need to get it through the unelected House of Lords.

I thought the House of Lords could only delay legislation, not veto it.

I heard a rumor that Cameron was going to announce a proposal for "English votes for English bills" (ie, not letting MPs from the other countries vote on those laws). I think that either an English parliament or regional assemblies would be better, but that would rock the boat a lot more.

I doubt Cameron could get a federal system through the Commons.

The Lords can reject a bill and send it back twice to the Commons to think again about it, on the third time it has to pass it regardless.
