Yeah, the Tarahumara are amazing. I hope the culture survives with all the outside forces. Especially the narco trafficking.
The Apache are a related culture I believe. Geronimo led the Apache on some amazing raids that are still legendary. He'd lead a small group of warriors to escape from a reservation, they'd outrun the cavalry, sometimes covering 100 miles in a night and day, fight a battle, then disburse and disappear into the hills, to regroup a hundred miles away.

Wow.
Not as impressive, probably, but Rabbit-Proof Fence chronicles the feat of a trio of Australian Aboriginal children walking the length of the 1,500mi/2,400km fence in nine weeks, which averages out to about 27mi/43km a day. I saw the movie but I don't remember how those kids sustained themselves.

That's a great movie, Rad. They got some help as I recall, but mostly just lived off the land.

What? That was a compliment- as by default it means better to stay in Manchester.

Hey Norc - whenever somebody asks me to do calculations in the non-metric system, I usually find it easy to convert everything to metric, do my calculations, then convert back. It's such a mind numbingly superior system for calculation, I'm totally with you.
But to the topic at hand, Jim Thorpe was probably the greatest Olympic athlete in history, though because he got screwed out of some prizes on technicalities he often doesn't get listed. He was an American Indian.

Probably why Bakshi choose to portray him as an American Indian- to convey that sense visually.

If I had to guess at the reason I would hazard it was meant to in some way represent the Mediterranean nature of Gondor- its reminiscent of the costume design for contemporary shows of the period like I, Cladius-
Is the awful horned helmet is the mismatched piece of clothing really.

Indeed- same idea however- representing that area of the world as it was often depicted in the 70's -men in miniskirts were a bit of a fad on tv for a while- they even hung about until the 80's with men in miniskirts on Star Trek TNG-
And that was 87.
And that was 87.

Re: The Three Hunters ... more like the Three Strollers, amirite?
They dumped the notion pretty quick- I think the miniskirt male uniform only lasted the first series.
Jean Paul Gualtier is also quite keen on dressing men in miniskirts when he does costume for tv and films.

Eventually. You can pretty much scrub most of series 1 and 2 as embarrassing tosh.
Same goes for series 1 and 2 of DS9 (with the exception of the opening two parter and the final three parter of series 2).
And sadly most of Voyager is pretty poor, and least said about Enterprise with its soft porn Vulcan the better
Kilts are much better Azriel, hard wearing, not a silly length, and lets everything breath freely
