Mad Cage stars in the remake of the original- a remake which is a disgrace in comparison to the original in every single conceivable way.

I don't like Cage in anything except Raising Arizona and when I watch that today I begin to wonder a bit. His performance still works but parts of it seem somewhat off.

I just find his acting like watching paint dry on a plank of wood.

Come one Con Air, The Rock and Face Off, are exteremly dopey but fun action films...after eight or nine pints.

Cage's acting is more like someone getting high off the paint drying, yet somehow being just as boring as wathcing it dry.

Just be glad he never became Aragorn as was strongly rumoured in the early days of LOTR.

Well that will leave some strange images in my head...

By the by, does anyone know which actor it was that Viggo Mortenson (sp?) replaced?

[quote="Sunset Smaug"]bounce Let's play a little game, now that we've got to know each other!
Game is: simply rate the films! For me...

1. TFOTR -      5/10
2. TTT -          3/10
3. TROTK -     1 /10
4. AUJ -      .39 /10
5. DOS (estimate) -  < less than 0 /10
6. TABA (estimate) - Can't dare to speculate  because with each movie I am shocked at the ever climbing levels of departure from the stories I    know.

These are my ratings and perhaps unfairly, each successive film was handicapped by the bad taste left after seeing the one before it and the still lingering high angst levels as a result.

DOS and TABA will probably be around the same as AUJ for me.

You know, in light of DOS I'm going to bump AUJ up to a 4.

It still sucks donkey dick, though.

And you know, it's really hard for me to not focus solely on adaptation when it comes to rating these movies. For the most part designs, effects, music etc. are all really good. It's just bad writing and adaptation that brings them down. Shrugging

I cannot watch TH as a fantasy or fun film in its own merit at all !! I keep harking back to the book ! The minute something is missplaced, out of context or even a phrase said or not said, I get so wired up that there's no way on Earth I can even LIKE these films !! my friend can. He's read the books but, can still watch the film as just that....a film ! nothing clouds his view. My head is to full of shadows, I cant see the Hobbit as a "film of fun & action the whole family will like". Everything to me is poisoned, tainted, distorted. I cant enjoy it for longer than it takes to hit the switch off button. There is the odd,(very odd) moment, when you see for a nano second, something wow-ish, like the Eagles, love them, but, then they dont have a speaking part !

This thread was rather lame.

The person who started this thread had rather lame posts.

Wasn't this thread started by a troll?

I agree with Azriel. I cant watch TH any more. It bores me to tears. Unfortunately no matter how great Pettys edits are they will never be how I imagine the book to be , I cant summon up any interest in the new one later this year either. The basics are missing. They may look ok but everything else is wrong from the get go. The Dwarves are wrong.

FoTR: 7/10
TT: 9/10 (mostly because of Sam's speech. I'm sorry but that's just beautiful.)
RotK: 8/10
AUJ: 4.5/10
DoS: 6.5/10
TABA: (predicted) 6-7/10

Post by malickfan Tue Jun 24, 2014 10:00 pm

After a quick look at this thread I don't think I ever actually gave my scores, it's been months since I've seen DOS, and years since I've seen LOTR (the whole way through at least, the theatrical cuts I haven't seen in possibly 8 or 9 years) I'm not sure if can grade the films on there own terms, or as adapations, but I'll give it a go:

FOTR:10/10 (massively biased I do think it's a great film (not adaption) but the 10 reflects the jaw dropping/sheer amazement I felt when watching this for the first time (with no prior knowledge of the story) aged 10
TT:6.8/10 (can't remember it very well, Helms deep seemed very cinematic, the Ents were handled well, and it had choppy editing)
ROTK:6.5/10

AUJ:5/10
DOS:3.8/10 (mostly down to Smaug and the acting)

Rankin Bass Hobbit: 6.5/10
Bakshi LOTR:5/10 maybe it's a mess but I really like it.
