i wholeheartedly disagree with u there. don't judge the fandom by the fans and don't judge the fan by the fandom.
I've found that i really love being part of a fandom. The Sherlockians are as brilliant as they are crazy. there is a sort of comunity feeling, like joining a religious sect.

Trust me, I've been part of various fandoms for several years. The community is part of the attraction, but there are a lot of downsides to most fandoms, including cliques and tunnelvision.
I'm glad you've had good experiences with the phenomenon though. And obviously I wouldn't still be here if I wasn't getting something from fandom myself. That, and once you're in it's hard to get out.

Not sure I count as fandom- certainly not of Pj's Tolkien inspired films. 
I come here for the people and I like the sense of community and cause its fun and even sometime s informative!

nah Sherlock stuff is wild. off the wall loopy and funny. they are chilled out, they have no axes to grind like Who fans. some of the Who stuff is nasty.

Well I dislike Rose as a character- but during her time on the show there still some of my favourite episodes despite that- and many of my favourie scenes are in that time period too, just in not very good episodes.
So I dont hate the entire thing, all the writers and everyone in it as you seem to of current Who.

See what I mean?- thats already more negative and a sweeping a statement than I would make about any period of Who. That tars the entire last 2 and a half series of Who negatively.
The Rose period isnt my favourite Who era by a long way, but there was still enough Doctor Who stories to keep me interested even when I disliked the companions.
