Scottish Pubs
So I was having dinner with a couple who had come back from visiting Scotland a few months ago, specifically Edinborough, and they said all the pubs closed at 6 pm.

I'm still trying to process it. What?!

Re: Scottish Pubs
{{ Dunno where they were drinking. During the week its normally 11pm for last orders. Some places stop serving food about 6pm maybe they were thinking of that. }}

Re: Scottish Pubs
That doesn't sound like any pub I have ever heard of. sounds like a restaurant or cafe.

Re: Scottish Pubs
I'll have to run that by them. though 6 pm sounds awfully early to stop serving food as well.

Re: Scottish Pubs
{{ In smaller towns like my own most food places make their money on morning rolls to workers, school kids at lunch time and and a retiree crowd of blue haired old ladies for late lunches and afternoon tea and gossip.
They nearly all close at either 5 or 6. But thats when the chip shops and takeaways all start up to take over.
Pubs are dying on their arse sadly. Football is all that really keeps most going, as folk will still go to watch big matches there for atmosphere, and travelling fans still gather there pre and after matches.
Lot of thing shave hit the trade, wages and electricity and gas costs have all gone up without revenue increasing, Brexit made it harder for lot of places to get staff, yearly tax increases on budgets, the smoking ban.
But mainly they are just too expensive, its much cheaper to buy your alcohol out a supermarket and drink at home. And with inflation here still in double digits its a night out most cant afford any more. You look in the windows of most pubs as you pass during the week now and its likely the bar staff will out number the customers. Its not unusual for pubs to close up midweek about 9-10 if trade is so slow its not worth being open.}}
