Re: Largest Tolkien Forums of 2015 (end of an era)
Random amusing/scary thought, we are still the 4th biggest Tolkien forum online, so I'm wondering how many hundreds of random people stumble across this forum each day looking for Tolkien discussion and quickly leave now knowing all about the weird gifs I watch and my insecurities about dating...

Don't forget the excellent creative writing department we have!

One Admin and one Moderator (ho ho ho) is just about all you need when people (approximately) behave themselves, methinks.

edit: i checked! aparently not... i rememeber i time with like five moderators, what happened?!
Re: Largest Tolkien Forums of 2015 (end of an era)
The others either stepped down or ceased posting altogether for a time, though of the seven people who have held or currently hold mod/admin positions on the new forum five have posted within the last week.
Of the missing ones, Ally disappeared abruptly in late 2013 and no one has heard from her since; several of us fear the worst. Gandalf's Beard is still active elsewhere online and spends much of his time these days writing erotic Harry Potter fanfiction.

Re: Largest Tolkien Forums of 2015 (end of an era)
Goodness, I must try and avoid that. But, where does he post said fiction? I mean, there are so many erotic HP fanfiction sites, which one does he use so I can avoid it? Do you have a link?

Re: Largest Tolkien Forums of 2015 (end of an era)
That was how I tracked him down a couple years ago. Two of the older stories on there are ones he originally posted on Forumshire.
He's most active on AO3 'cause of FF.n deleting his smut, as he mentions on his profile, but I'd rather not directly link to the uncensored stories.
- https://www.fanfiction.net/s/5678122/1/The-Adventures-of-Bilbo-and-Tauriel (originally titled "The Adventures of Bilbo and Itaril" since that was Tauriel's initial placeholder name)
- https://www.fanfiction.net/s/6254970/1/If-Tolkien-wrote-Narnia-Lewis-Wrote-LotR (the guy who collaborated on this ceased to be active long before the move to the new forum)

Re: Largest Tolkien Forums of 2015 (end of an era)
I'm now curious if anyone else here has posted embarrassing fan fiction on the internet somewhere in years past, I'm glad I have the sense to use different usernames for my other online activities...

I don't think he finds it embarrassing, given his openness in discussing it last time he stopped by here.

Re: Largest Tolkien Forums of 2015 (end of an era)
Fair point, and after the trainwreck that was The Cursed Child I'm beginning to reassess the literary merits of HP fan fiction...

I find his writing good, judging from a quick skim.

Yeah, I agree. He was a trailblazer here in a lot of ways, creative writing included.

Best leave the naughty things to other places. Naughtiness has no place in Forumshire. That’s the one thing - perhaps the only thing - I take a severe Moderator stand on.

...incidentally, Eldo, whenever I come here I am reminded that I am actually a Moderator... only in Forumshire.

I was working on the top of my erection just this evening. It was dark though, so I had to use a flashlight to see what I was doing!

I'd think you'd know your way around your erection well enough by now to not need a flashlight.
