huffjuff wrote:As you might know I am in community college studying SubSea-engineering, but I am not sure I've chosen right... Or in another way, I just don't think this is the thing I want to do the rest of my life.
So what I am considering is changing my field of study (and the place im studying) to this: https://uit.no/utdanning/program?p_document_id=282393 at University of Tromsoe. It is basically a 5 year integrated masters in space physics. So when I'm done, I'll be a space engineer!
Sounds fun! I know a guy who works for NASA searching for black holes, he certainly seems to enjoy it.

Re: Academic endeavors
Switching majors is fairly common in US universities since the first two years are largely general requirement classes anyway. If you're more interested in space stuff I think you should go for it.
Re: Academic endeavors
Blue:
I have a lot of friends in Tromsoe, so that wont be a big thing for me. I've really only gotten to know one person well here in Florø. The rest of my classmates are people I have no other common interests with, so that wont be really hard either (thank god for the internet!)
Figg:
Its more like Howard in TBBT. Making scientific space discoveries and making stuff that goes into space!
Eldo:
I have to start my first year in Uni over again, but I can get the classes I've had a exam in here, implemented into the new f.o.s. I really like the spacestuff and I've talked to a few people who have their masters from that specific f.o.s and it seems really cool! So now I'll just have to make that decision!

Oi you!
us oldies know its wise to get your tutor boozed up and photographed in compromising positions with a traffic cone.
that actually happened by the way.
Okay, now you have to dig us up the pictures!

Re: Academic endeavors
I need some help. any of you guys got photoshop? I need to enhance these 100 year old b/w photos, in particular the faces are very faded. I don't know if its possible, but I would be grateful if anyone fancies fiddling with them.

Not sure there is enough information in the original pictures to have any extra detail- I had a go but not a lot of luck maybe someone else knows a better technique- these were best I managed-

Bloody lassies never happy!!
Right here you go, I desaturated the purple one and mucked about with the curves- the art programs not hers- (it only worked on one of them enough to be different from the previous ones)

Not sure why I keep coming back to this thread expecting some academic discussion. Not that I really wanted one, mind you.

Re: Academic endeavors
well it is kinda academic, not the tight trousers, but the 100 year old photos. I am trying to figure out why dudes plonked Botticelli on plates and dishes.
um actually that's the title of my PhD. ''Why did dudes plonk Botticelli n shit on plates.''

Re: Academic endeavors
5 years isn't so long. I can wait.
Perhaps in the mean time you could post a juicy pot tidbit from time to time.
The eclectic mix of ideas is what makes Forumshire what it is.

Well, if that's what you want to do, and there's no other circumstances standing in the way, you should go ahead and do it.
Err.. if that's what you want to do, that is.
