Yes, eventually you get back to where you started, and a circle has no beginning or end.  Nod

Lot of buckie= big circles.

And as I will most likely end in buckie as I began in buckie (I was conceived in a buckie fuelled drunken union following a particularly lengthy and spectacular Hogmanay party) that's another circle, of sorts.  drunken

As evidence that the road goes ever on, there are collections of letters on clay tablets from over 4000 years ago that sound exactly like people I meet every day. I'm convinced it's reincarnation. Very Happy

I remember one letter from an ancient university student that said something like:

"Mother, you shame me! I need new clothes! The clothes you sent me haven't been in fashion for 3 years! The son of Dad's employee is better dressed than I am! How can you do this to me?  "

I keep meeting this person wherever I go it seems.
The face may have changed, but the sense of entitlement is unmistakeably the same.
Reincarnation is the only logical explanation! Nod

Reminds me of the Babylonian tablet, with the father lamenting he cant get his son to stay in his studies as he keeps truanting to go hang out with his equally truanting friends around the market stalls.

Some things dont change it seems.  Very Happy

"all roads will end in 6 billion years time."

I was in a physics colloquium where the benefits of a linear accelerator versus a tokamak was being discussed.  Someone commented that the ultimate limit of any straight line on the earth was a circle.  We all laughed uproariously of course.

Same could be said of roads.  Nod

It was physics geeky, and perhaps not in a good way.

It flows at conferences, not departmental colloquia. Used to flow at departmental friday happy events (or after some colloquia) but universities have gotten more strait laced of late. The Columbia Lamont-Doherty earth sciences lab (not on campus) has a pretty sweet craft beer selection after colloquia, and at the American Geophysics Union beer flows at all the poster sessions.

I'm glad things haven't changed entirely. I remember as a grad student listening in awe to men who could barely walk slurring forth true wisdom that made your mind explode. Shocked drunken

For myself, I never figured out how to be rigorous and drunk at the same time. (Any way you want to take that, actually. Embarassed )

the road only goes on and on if you are looking for a road, and once on it you will either stay on it for fear of losing it again, or step off it because the road is full of stones and seems to be mocking you. Either way you are screwed.
