The Comprehensive History of the Hobbit movie website!
In an attempt to be radically different, I have decided to do a school report on the history and developments of the-hobbit-movie.com! I originally planned to split the report into two sections, The Hobbit Movie Blog and The Hobbit Movie Forum.
The Hobbit Movie Blog I have completed here: http://gandwell.com/?p=85 I have handed this article in, and if it gets the all clear, research begins on section 2!
Any contributions will be appreciated- as hopefully (as long as I get the go ahead) I will have to re-draft both articles- and there are people here who've been here much much much more longer and much much more active- so that'd be great! Probably got some information wrong too!
Fingers crossed allowed to do this for my report (welsh bacc thingy ma bob- don't ask) and I'm allowed to write this as an historical necessity (which it is!)

Re: The Comprehensive History of the Hobbit movie website!
I can offer insight into the forum since I was here almost from the beginning (and I read all of the old threads too, back when there were few enough that such a task was possible ). The history of the two is interconnected: the forum began because GB (posting as James), Show, and Paul (I'm not sure if he ever joined the forum), were having a ton of really long chats in the blog comments sections. GB mentioned that he was on NarniaWeb.com, which also has a forum, and shortly afterwards Ady set up the forum. Unfortunately this all been lost because Taz deleted all of the old comments in favor of a Facebook plugin, so this is based on my memory.
Anyway, I'll wait to ramble at too much length with regards to the forum until you post that article (or before you post it, if you want to use me for research purposes ), but I like what you have so far. The person from late 2009 (Odo?) is correct that there was a ton of downtime, particularly in the first half of 2010. The forum was down more often than the blog and that (coupled with the long periods when registrations were impossible) cost a lot of activity that we never really recovered from.
Like I said, I like what you have so much, though I'm more interested to see the part about the forum since in my opinion that's where all the action was -- and where it continues today! Awesome job!

You joined the old forum in January 2010, Petty, a month before the second big explosion in activity, which was probably partially due to you.

Re: The Comprehensive History of the Hobbit movie website!

Re: The Comprehensive History of the Hobbit movie website!
I remember bringing respectablity to the thread, but the forces of disrespectabilty and unrespectabilty seem to be winning at the moment... Remember though, however great the odds, Sauron lost in the end! (I think I came on just before Mr Tyrant btw --- just before the un-and-de-respectability really set in - late 2009, maybe....?)

You joined in October 2009, Odo. I remember because it was just a few weeks after I had become active in September (though I'd been around since April) and together we launched the first explosion of activity! And, naturally, you launched an explosion of respectability.
Re: The Comprehensive History of the Hobbit movie website!
I did a report on The Beatles once- just for fun- and pretended it was for school! Anyway, If I can think of any more facts that come to mind I'll tell you, though Eldorion and others are probably better informed than me!
Good luck! xx

Thank you very much for such detailed information! I'll definitely work this in and refine my draft, for I've had the all clear from my teacher! Granted, she gave me a few weird looks- much weirder looks than when I waltzed into a classroom singing I am the Walrus- but it's has been approved! I'll work on it in the summer, for I have "real" work to be getting on with, though admittedly much more tedious!
Appreciated Ally + anyone else!
(Not everything has to be truthful either- I was thinking of saying that Ady was actually a Pseudonym created by Peter Jackson and Ian Mckellen- too far?

perhaps a bit.... unless you want to make everyone here happy by saying that he read/listened to the complaints of the forumers and changed his film plan accordingly. that would be interesting...

Well if I was being polite I might say that was being a bit liberal with the truth. If I was being blunt I would say its an outright lie.
This wonderful little forum has a lot that could be said for it in a paper, perhaps on online community, or how its possible for various folks from around the globe to agree and disagree and still remain civil and engaged, and how that might in the future through the internet have wider repercussions in the 'real world'.
I really don't think there is any call to just make up sensationalist suggestions to make your paper interesting.

I'm not surprised though guys - don't you want to be a tabloid journalist Saradoc?
On a slight tangent, did anyone see those pictures of Prince William in the newspapers?? Talk about misleading headlines!!

Missed that what was the headline Ally? "Prince William has full head of hair groomed for wedding!" Or did they say that his brother has the same father as him?! (Come on, look at him, he's the obviously Hewlitts son and lets face it Diana wasn't shy in coming forth as it were- the truth will out!)

Re: The Comprehensive History of the Hobbit movie website!
I undersold it there, it was actually in boxer shorts!
http://www.people.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/2011/04/24/prince-william-gyrates-on-stage-in-boxer-shorts-and-feather-boas-102039-23082691/
Basically there was a massive picture of Prince William (at some student party at some Lords sons house no doubt) with the headline along the lines of "Prince Andrew's stagnight". I'm always dubious of all newspapers like that, but I'm sure some people were taken in by the misleading picture & headline!

I think it's been generally agreed upon that the PJ sockpuppet in our midst is actually GB, whose recent absence is no doubt due to the amount of work involved with the beginning of principal photography.
