What's a hidden user?

Just noticed on looking who was browsing the forum, there was one registered user (presumably ME), 3 hidden users, 1 guest, and one bot.
The hell's a hidden user? Have we got Rangers patrolling our borders?

I think they're google bots, but who knows, they might be killer bots!

hidden users is, i think, users like me who decided to hide when we're online 
i chose to do it because someone kept sending me PMs whenever i was online and then became really sour whenever i didn't reply within two minutes. so yeah, hidden users just hide their online-status. for some reason

In preferences under Profile you have the option to
"Hide my online status: yes/no"
Choose yes and your username will not show on the bottom of the page. (Well, we mods can see it. But we won't tell anyone.)

Norc and Amarie have got this one covered. Also, hidden users don't have their "last online" information on the Memberlist, even in Mod-Vision, which makes it harder to keep track of activity.

You can see it and mods can see it, but that's it.

Flood control prevents people from making more than one post every x seconds. It's done to deter spamming, and also helps prevent accidental double posts if someone clicks the "send" button too many times (though it's not always successful at either ).

I still want to know what the bots do, and why it says "Google," and one time I saw one that said "Bing" I think.
Like right now. It says "Bots: Google (2)", but it says "1 Bot" right above that.

Sorry, I missed that question earlier, bungo. The bots are here to collect information for search engines. Google, Bing, and others send out their bots to trawl through millions upon millions of webpages that are recorded, indexed, and used to generate search results. That's how Google is able to show both the name of a page and a sample of the text on it (unless that site blocks bots through robots.txt, in which case Google will display a message beneath the result stating as much). The bots also follow links between sites, as links are a crucial part of Google's search and ranking algorithms.
