Well it's not in a finished form yet and still needs a fair bit of work, but I had been thinking about posting it around New Years since that's when I'll be posting the final results of my 2013 forum activity comparison thing.  If you're interested in the fandom history piece then I'll do my best to have it ready by that time as well. Smile

And crabbit has been a part of Tolkien fandom for a long time. Very Happy Ever heard of the Great Balrog Wings War of 1997? Or the original purist vs. liberal debate, which makes the fights over movies look downright cheery and civilized. Nod

As to your edit Eldo that sounds like flame wars and other unpleasantness producing no worldly good, thats not crabbit at all.
All this time and you UShobbits still confuse crabbit with anger, that makes me so crabbit Mad

If I recall correctly Sin is from the South, and there are a lot of Scots-UShobbits there. Very Happy But as for me, there might have been a few Hessians back there somewhere (my dad's family being largely Pennsylvania German), but no Redcoats. Mad

Actually Figgy, you not only got banned from TORN twice, didn't you get banned from Bree once, after they made you a moderator? (no need to play coy, we know your talents!)

My admiration remains boundless for both accomplishments.

I like to think it lives on here with folks such as yourself, Figg, Sin and all the others who wandered this way when it vanished.

You may the only one technically. As before we were Forumshire we were where Bree used to be before there was a Bree.
Folks like Eldo, Tin, Orwell and the others were the original refugees.
Just a weird quirk of fate that both main sets of refugees came from different forums that collapsed but on the same site.

I'm a Bree and TORn refugee.

I agree with Azriel, Bree had a charm all of its own, still miss the place, even though I joined it rather late...

That's a good point actually, very few newbies have stayed Long Term (or at least visit reguarly in the year I've been an active poster) here, and the majority of people posting here have, at one time or another posted on other forums.

Does that make us a community or anti social outcasts amongst the Tolkien forums?

It's pretty common for people to have accounts on multiple forums within a specific fandom. There's certainly a lot of overlap between most of the larger Tolkien forums. We used to be somewhat unusual in that Forumshire (and later, also Bree) were pretty insular -- that was probably part of the reason why the attempted merger with PT was so awkward -- but as we've become more prominent (relatively speaking) and had back-and-forth traffic with Bree I think we've integrated into the mainstream of Tolkien fandom. But there is still something of that refugee/outcast spirit here, I think (something that has grown with and mutually supported the increasingly purist tendencies of our member base).

Some of the people on the 'Downs make Petty look like a PJ-lover, but unfortunately, it's dwindled to almost nothing. I have a friend (from an unrelated forum) who used to be a mod on the 'Downs, and I used to lurk there a fair bit, and it's a shame what has happened to them.
