Any guesses as to when we'll hit 200k?
It will happen this month.
Would you be able to tell who's post brings us to the big 200k? (Odds are it's probably Petty, you or Figgs)

Probably. Every post has a unique ID. When you use the "view latest post" function the code is the six digits after the pound sign, though posts from early in the forum's history have codes that are less than six digits long, of course. However, the unique IDs include some deleted posts. If a post is deleted before anyone else makes another one, then it's ID number gets re-used whenever the next post is made. But if at least one intervening post (using a higher ID number) is made, the count continues onward and is not affected by the deletion. On some forums I frequent the post ID can be up to twice as high as the number of extant, non-deleted posts, but in our case the difference is only 310. Of course, that might change in the next few weeks, but it's easy enough to double check. And of course, anyone who is online as those last few posts are being made towards 200K could spot it without needing any special tricks. But the post with the ID #200000 won't be the post takes our overall count to 200,000.

Re: Forumshire passes 100,000 posts
If you're looking at the forum index and you click the little rectangle next to the name of the last person who posted in a thread -- or if you're already looking at a thread and you click on the title of any individual post -- the URL box in your browser will show the thread's normal URL followed by a pound sign (#) and then a number. That number is the post's unique ID. However, if you look at the ID of the most recent post on the forum, it'll be 310 higher than the post total listed at the bottom of the index page (and on the statistics page).

Re: Forumshire passes 100,000 posts
So in the hope of clearing things up ... this post by Petty from a moment ago has the post ID of 200,000.
http://www.hobbitmovieforum.com/t341p425-questions-for-the-lore-masters#200000
However, the post total listed at the bottom of the forum is still more than 300 away from that milestone. This is because some posts have been deleted. However, by knowing what the gap between these two figures is (post ID vs actual post total) we should be able to figure out what the actual 200,000th post is. currently the difference is 310, so the post with ID #200310 should be the one we're looking for. I'll keep checking as we get closer to see if the numbers drift further apart, which is possible.
