It's not yet dark here but we've already had a trick-or-treater (a little girl who apparently has a really early bedtime).  My mom and I finished our pumpkins just in the nick of time to get them out there.  This is my first time carving pumpkins in at least five years and I don't have those fancy pumpkin carving knives anymore, so I was working with regular kitchen instruments.  But all things considered I think they turned out nicely.

Tales of Home [3] - Page 21 OtDHjfj

This is my mom's pumpkin.  She was trying to replicate the Minion one we saw yesterday at the farm.  But even if it's not the most Minion-y, it's still pretty scared-looking, which works for Halloween.

Tales of Home [3] - Page 21 CU5c09U

This one is my pumpkin.  When I was younger and carved pumpkins for Halloween I always just carved pretty generic faces with eyes, a triangular nose, and a toothy grin.  But this year, being the first time doing pumpkins in a long time, I wanted to try something different.  Tto be honest it turned out better than I thought it would given my utter lack of artistic talent.

I'll take better pictures once it's dark. Wink

So we had our first trick-or-treaters come by around 5:00 PM, with the rush really starting about 45-60 minutes after that, and for the first time ever we ran out of candy. Shocked We had about 150 pieces from my trip to the grocery store earlier this week, and gave out a strict one piece per person, and we were commpletely out by 7:30.  Fortunately the rush was dying down by that point, in part because it was beginning to rain, but still we've never run out of candy before.  There's definitely more trick-or-treaters on our street, and I think in the entire neighborhood, then there were when I was younger.  Which is great because I love that my neighborhood is big on Halloween and I want it to continue. Very Happy

Also, a bunch of people took pictures of my pumpkin and gave me compliments on it. Smugdog We got a couple good shots of it after dark; this one's my favorite. Smile

Took me a while too to figure out why Eldo was so proud of the twisted uni-eye. Once I 'saw' it, it made sense. Cool

Yeah, most kitchen knives aren't really designed with an eye towards making detailed decorative carvings.

Yeah, well it is if your a guest. Its a small versatile blade kept hidden under the armpit for emergencies.
These days its worn openly thrust into the top of your sock, this goes back to when a Highlander was a guest, when it went against the Highland code to carry a concealed weapon, so it was moved to plain sight at such times.

Its pronounced skee-an-doo.
