One of the things it said was that Thorin is 5 foot 2 inches tall.

I don't like the direction they're taking Thorin's character. It screams ,"bad ass," and that's not the vibe I got from the book at all.

I remember Celeborn as being referred to in Unfinished tales, I think, as being very tall as well.
I looked it up
pg 279 unfinished tales , the name Celeborn was derived from orna"uprising,tall" rather from noun orne "tree".... That Celeborn was tall is mentioned in note of Numenorean linear measures p.299 -remarks of Celeborn .one of the Teleri ...he was held by them to be tall, as his name indicated, (silver tall) but the Teleri were in general somewhat less in build and stature than the noldor.

so I suppose that is nebulous, maybe he is just "tall" for the shorter Teleri. It isn't clear here. so you may have other more clear sources.

Generally speaking, meaning that Tolkien reacted to an illustration by Pauline Baynes and started writing descriptions. Legolas was the only Elf in the illustration in question, but once Tolkien got rolling he seems to have written about Eldarin men in general.

I too take Celeborn to be tall for a Teler, and if memory serves these late statements about Celeborn being tall are really within the context of him being a Teler from Aman, not a Sinda of Middle-earth, as published.
