Well I'm willing to give it a go (magnanimous of me I know).

Re: LOTR role-playing
I've thought about it more and I think changing the storyline drastically is ok. As long as its with the approval of the DM, whether that ends up being me or someone else. Speaking of which, does anyone else want to be the DM?

Re: LOTR role-playing
I've DM'd a lot over the last 25 years or so but this is a new variant to me so at least for the immediate future I will just take part and observe how it all works, maybe we could have a rota of DM's from those who fancy giving it a go- plenty creative minds on here would enjoy creating a storyline I am sure.

And where will all this "creativity" lead us? Into wickedness, sleeplessness, and the general lack of a sense of respectability, that's where!

Re: LOTR role-playing
Well I actually used to do quite a bit of rp, on sites like the barrowdowns and a few others. Heck, I'm still reeling from the fact that I had an account on the lotrplaza, and never noticed Eldorion! Anyhow, things usually get a little too obsessed, and really to be a good rper, you have to go on every day! I think the pressure got to me, so I stopped!!
Though as this forum is the only one I visit now I'll be up for the challenge!

Mmm... you make it sound like there's work involved, Ally -- maybe I was too hasty...

Really? What's your username over there? I haven't been as active lately (which is why I just resigned my moderator position on the Plaza) but I have been in the past, as you might be able to tell from me having 13,500 posts. I was always more active in the Lore and Movies forum than the RP fora, though.
Plaza RPs are definitely intense (which is part of the reason I stopped participating in them), but I think that on a more laid-back site like ours RPs would probably be a little more leisurely and silly.
Re: LOTR role-playing
I'd second the question about your username, Ally, but I'm relatively new as far as Plaza people go (though I've made myself popular enough to be the chief guard of Mirkwood. )
Anyway, I've run a few RPed games, and though I'm not interested in running any at the moment I could offer advice.

I would consider joining, as long as my character could be an Official of some sort.

Re: LOTR role-playing
Lorient, will we be writing in a fun and exciting "The Hobbit" style, or in a dull and laboriously boring "Lord of the Rings" style? I'm not trying to push one particular approach, off course, I'd just like to know.

I like you. That was well played.

Though far less controversial, I'd say, and undoubtably warmer.

Re: LOTR role-playing
Whatever hapened to good old Lorient? A bright sparkling, then a swift dwindle into nothingness... I was living there for a day or so, didn't our heart's skip when he walked amongst us, but now it's just us boring villagers again... Alack, alas, a'woo...

Re: LOTR role-playing
I was wondering the same thing earlier. I hope that he comes back; it's great to see new faces and perspectives around! Hopefully he's just busy for a few days or something and will come wandering back.
Re: LOTR role-playing
Oh Lorient! Oh Lorient! Where for art thou? Art thou gone? Up a tree? Or under a bush? Do come back- Admin has a hole of your own all loooked out here in Forumshire which is almost certainly not full of state surveilance equipment. Do drop back in again.
