Re: LOTR role-playing
I role play on another LotR forum occasionally. That's all I really am interested in at present.

Re: LOTR role-playing
I'm not much of a role-player (Baingil would know that after her attempts to get me to join her in RPing at the other site she mentions ) but I do like silly, spammy role-play-ish threads like the picnic. And to some extent, most threads on Forumshire have a RP element since a lot of people here post "in character" to a greater or lesser degree, even if that's just saying absurd things.
Re: LOTR role-playing
With things like that, Avandi, just start something. Best you set no rules, just jump in with something. If you spike an interest, others will jump in. We're Free Spirits here, so don't be offended if folk go off on all sorts of tangents. Oh yes, about rules, we have them - supposedly - but they're very flexible here. We thrive on imagination and creativity, so go ahead... (I'm already trying to think of a character, but I'll await your first move).
Another thought, when your ready tostart, make up a "Roleplay" name, make a thread, and barrel on immediately with your role playing without prelim or explanation. That'll work for me, at least!

Re: LOTR role-playing
Of course we have rules! A full four of them (originally only two)!
I have to agree with Orwell here, though (can't believe I'm saying that ), Lorient. Go ahead and make a thread and people will come in and add to it and it becomes something collaborative and awesome. And if it's silly we might even see Odo go off on an adorable rant about respectability, and that's always worth it.

I will NOT participate, but I WILL see to it that anything unrespectable gets dealt with severely!

Mmm... that "please, please, please" bit doesn't sound like something I'd say - or think - but nothwithstanding, please proceed. Start your thread. Enough of idle chat. Let's get going. I'll follow in whatever vein you start...

Are you trying feminine wiles, Baingil? Isn't that cheating?

I don't mean to speak for Baingil, but not when it's her boyfriend she's "wile-ing"

Few questions, what time period should we do? I'm thinking around time LOTR happens. And, where should I post this?

She's been trying to get me to re-start RPing for a while. She likes it when I RP a wolf character, for some reason.

What time period you want to do is up to you, though around the time of The Hobbit or LOTR would probably be easiest to try to start off with. Did you have any particular settings or storylines in mind?
As for where to post this, I think the Other Fantasy Stories forum or the New Members forum is probably your best bet. Maybe the Hobbit or LOTR forums if you're going for a more specific theme. It's really up to you.

Before the Hobbit. What about a few adventuresome hobbits going off? Perhaps, Tooks who went on adventures but came back wealthy but were not seen as being quite respectable?
Post a New tHread in the the Fiction section via OTHER FANTASY STORIES.

Re: LOTR role-playing
K, its going to take place during LOTR. I will probably post the actual storyline within the next day or two after I come up with it.
Here are a few of the rules:
You can be on either side of the war, from anywhere in Middle Earth you want.
Any race you want from anywhere (as long as it is realistic for that race: no hobbits of gondor, orcs of the shire etc.),
you cannot be too high ranking. You should not go over a low ranking officer. Cannot be a captain or higher.
Has to have realistic skill. (Cannot be a hobbit armed only with rocks who eliminates an entire platoon of uruk-hai)
Cannot drastically change the storyline of actual LOTR (I.e.: cannot be an uruk-hai who kills aragorn)
That should do it. This will not only be stuff from book, will be allowed to have elements of movies as well.
Everything will have the APPEARANCE of movies.
