Oh, this was where the thread is.  I lost track of it, will repost from the other thread I created.

It's out in Europe, the response is predictable.

After 30 minutes I'm struggling to watch the rest. This kind of animation is not to my liking.
And it's rubbish

I'm hoping this will help hollywood get over it's love affair with Boyens. Yeah, she contributed a few things to LotR, but beyond the prologue I think all her work was bad.

{{ Ok, I watched it, eventually. In bits, I couldnt stomach more than small chunks of it at a time.  Mad Is it worth your time? No. Does it have any redeeming features? Not really.
Basically its what you think and feared - the story is an excuse to recreate bits 'people will remember from the other films' that includes entire scenes, lines of dialogue, creatures, even characters with Eowyn pointlesly shoved in as unnecessary narrator. Its as least as bad as the Hobbit films for awkwardly showhorned in callbacks to their own films that dont belong there.
As for the main character Hera, Hera go to sleep more like.  Sleep
Bland doesn't begn to describe her. Naturally she can fight, ride and all that amazingly, she is apparently strong enough to push back and overpower a fully grown adult male warrior because, girl power I guess.  Shrugging  But for the most part she feels exactly like what she is- a completely unnecessary character who doesn't really have anything of import to do shoved into a narrative where she isn't needed. The worst thing about her is that almost every other charcater, you know all the main male ones Tolkien mentions, are so obviously a million times more interesting than her, but we are stuck with her because shes the girl.
If there was a Hera and she was like this no wonder Tolkien left her out she is so boring.

As to the animation, I'm no anime expert- but for me it varies wildly between 'I quite like that' (Helm in the snow) to 'it's 1980 and Im on the floor in front of a crt tv with a bowl of cereal watching cheap saturday morning imported cartoons with about 4 frames a minute in the animation. And if you can't animate a horse to save your life it's probably not the wisest choice to pick a story that's full of horses to animate.  Mad They look terrible.  Mad

Its a waste of everyone's time. A waste of effort. This film exists for one purpose and one purpose only, to stop the parent company losing the rights to the licence- they had to make use of it before a deadline or it was gone- so they churned this pile of sloppy shit out and expect us to lap it up. Don't help them succeed if you must watch this pile of nonsense pirate it.
If this is what we are getting going ahead it would have been better all round if they had lost the licence and as a bonus would have saved any other poor sod having to watch this drivel.  Evil or Very Mad }}
