Having been around for a couple of years, I am ashamed to say I dont actually know what Forumshire specifically celebrates. Is it the first day of the forum, or the first day of it being named Forumshire, or something else?

do Petty and Forumshire share the same birthday?

I think I joined only a couple weeks after Petty, or perhaps I joined before, disappeared for a bit and came back to find it completely dominated by Petty. But it already seemed like all the Petty themes were firmly established. Yet Odo was there from the first, casting a very memorable shadow. Orwell only appeared after Dark Planet day, I believe? I was on a long absence at the time.

I think you were here when I joined Halfy, as was Odo of course whose long abstenees are frankly a travesty and Queen Tinuviel was one of the longest serving members at that time I seem to recall, and Ally was here too, Eldy as well, sure Im forgetting folk, and of course the person whose posts drew me in like a crabbit bastard to red PJ liberal meat, Gandalf's Beard }}

I was in Scotland once. I bought the Clannad soundtrack to Robin Hood (1980s show) in Edinburgh. That's not the reason I went to Scotland, but in any case, I thought you'd enjoy this short story on your birthday.

no it doesn't, I wouldn't touch his barnacles. The last time one of them bit me.

Regarding forum history: Forumshire's birthday—defined as the day the old forum was created—is December 10, 2008. The initial membership of the forum was largely people who participated in the comments section of Ady's blog. GB was the only member of that group who made it to the new forum. However, chris63 and Tinuviel also joined in the first phase, before the forum hit a major slump and most of the early joiners drifted away.

I became active in September 2009 and Odo joined a couple weeks later, in early October. Our arrival helped give the forum a shot in the arm, though neither of us ever caught up to GB's post count. Petty's arrival in January 2010 completed what I've previously termed the "four pillars" of the old forum. Odo and Petty's contributions (encouraged by GB's vaguely post-hippie moderation philosophy) played a major role in the forum developing a distinctive site culture, a process that accelerated after Dark Planet Day.

Among other old-timers, Ally joined in October 2009, halfwise in January 2010, and Ringo in July 2010. Halfy joined only six days after Petty, but I'm not sure if he immediately became active or not.

I seem to remember that when I joined encryption brackets were already in play, but perhaps I'm getting the old and new forum mixed up?

I am almost certain that encryption brackets were not yet a thing in January 2010, but they were definitely in use by the time you were returned to us in February 2012.

Oops, erm, happy late late birthday! I'm assuming that Petty's still on his birthday bender so maybe he won't notice.
