I'll never unnerstand this modern social media. Why do I have to 'like' someone in order to 'follow' them? In real life I may want to follow the scurvy bastard just pound on them, and that's got nothing to do with 'liking' them.

{{Thought I'd bung up something different than my usual computer generated art- been doing some sketching of late, portraits of all things which i had never really one before as i prefer landscapes (landscapes dont complain you've put the trees in the wrong place or that their mountains don't look that big! ) but I decided to have a go anyway. And here's the results, a mix of the better half and her sister, her daughter and a mate of mine. All pencil drawings.
Still need a LOT of practise but not too bad a start I think, must be doing something right as since my better half started putting them on her facebook I keep getting requests from people to draw them!! }}

If the subjects of the drawings actually are happy to take ownership of them, then you've done a good job. I'm quite fond of the texture of the hair.

What are these for? It matters, I like all of them with a touch of purple in the sky, but things like K are downright unrealistic, so don't prefer that unless you have a reason to look unrealistic. B is the edge of what my BS meter will allow with still having enough color to catch attention. L has too many stars, don't trust it. Need a physical reason for the ellipse in D and G.

Interesting angle. One would think the thing was looking up at an interruption before proceeding to tear your neck out. Done from memory, I presume?
The hair on the chin with contoured mattes is especially convincing.

Re: Artisitc Merits
you should def invest in som edifferent types of pencils, from 3H, H, HB, B, 2B, 4B, 6B, 9B. you have talent and if you learn how to build up layers of different pencils your drawings will have a lot more depth. also you can use a qtip to blend, and cutting up eraser to erase very spesific detaling is a cool idea, highly recommend. this is really cool as fuck. i wish you took your drawings further, cause i think you can.Pettytyrant101 wrote:{{Sketch I did to while away some time at work last night }}

It was that or a biro, blue. }}

Re: Artisitc Merits
omg dind't see these until now. these are also really good, the proportions and everything!. you got talent! keep up the good work on building depth. pro tip, get some good thick paper so it actually can handle all the layers.Pettytyrant101 wrote:{{Thought I'd bung up something different than my usual computer generated art- been doing some sketching of late, portraits of all things which i had never really one before as i prefer landscapes (landscapes dont complain you've put the trees in the wrong place or that their mountains don't look that big! ) but I decided to have a go anyway. this is a good how to vid. at ca. 1 minute she brings up what i think you should try.
also
but you have the teqnique for picking up proportien and how it actually looks quite mastered, and that is the difficult part in my opinion. so if you practice shading and building depth it'll be sooo good..
god i wanna draw now..

this is a legolas i did in 2010, and then again in 2014. i can do it again today and see if it is any better (although, this is what proko said is a bad quality reference photo, because it has flat light and you kinda have to gess the shapes and shadows)

{{Yes but I'm about 30 years ahead of you and still somehow behind!!! (Can't think why Nope its a puzzler )
Clear to see your development in those two drawings, not just the shading that's improved, the individual strokes are stronger and far more confident and the proportions are greatly improved and the expression much better defined and made a focal point.
I do have a new piece I am about to embark on quite unlike anything I have attempted to do before, but I dont want to say too much about it yet but rest assured I shall keep Forumshire updated once I begin on it. }}
