I don't normally 'do' birthdays, but here's hoping your next quarter century will remain as bewildering as the first. The fact that you early on developed a voice of intellectual and moral clarity through it all speaks to the hidden gems of a complicated life. I think you'll climb heights hidden to others.

Thank you all for the birthday wishes! Especially Halfy--8am or not, that was really touching--and of course Petty for another memorable special birthday edition of the NotP. These threads are always nice to read, despite my complicated and largely negative feelings about my birthday in general. Though today ended up being one of the best birthdays I've had in a long time, so maybe I'll eventually turn a corner on how I feel about it being acknowledged IRL as well as on Forumshire.

So this is what happens when you step out for 5 minutes, suddenly there is a party going on.

With the years things have a tendency to seem a bit clearer, although there is an appealing innocence with youth that I am not sure returns. Not that I mean to say.. Wow, you’re so old now! Or something to that effect.

Once you get old enough you can go back to innocence because you've tried everything else and it didn't work, so why the hell not? Life is too complicated to pretend you know what's going on.

It's probably just my depression kicking in again, but I've been thinking alot about old memories/friends recently and wonder how Ellie is doing, she gave me some really good advice a few years back when I was in a bad place which still means alot all these years later.

I'm friends with her on Facebook as well but haven't talked in a few years (the Covid Lockdowns then getting my job meant i lost touch with people). From time to time I have thought about dropping her a message and seeing how she is doing, but I'm terrible at reaching out to people/maintaining friendships (especially since I started working full time) and kinda worry if it would be weird to message after so long...and I never knew her as well as most of you guys did. I wasn't around to see it happen, but as I understand it she left the forum for personal reasons, so perhaps its for the best to leave things in the past.

Wherever she got to I hope she is doing well and had a good birthday...and I assume she enjoyed Rings of Power more than I would lol.

Life is not a piece of elastic. You cant stretch it to suit you, nor can you let it just be, It flows. Id give it a go Malick what harm can it do ? You never know what comes and how much you enjoy it.

It would be great to catch up with her and see how she is doing (doing well, I hope) but I'm not very good at writing personal messages like this, not really sure a casual message like

'Hey, remember me? We used to argue about Hobbits a few years ago, wonder how you are doing?'

Would be enough, and after 2-3 years of no contact (and longer since I had a lengthy conversation with her) it somehow seems a bit unfair to merely contact her again because I'm feeling nostaglic/curious, if our friendship (however casual) had meant much to me perhaps I should have tried harder to preserve or develop it. If Ellie has moved onto to other places and things perhaps she is happier for it, I've dealt with my own mental health problems for most of my life and I know she had her own struggles, not sure I want to risk upsetting things if she's in a good place. I don't really know the full details but I know her departure from the forum wasn't under great circumstances...she hasn't been back since so I'm guessing she's moved on in her life.

Just hoping she's doing well and keeping busy wherever she is, I'd especially like to hear how she reacted to Rings of Power, she always put alot of thought and care into her reviews/posts even though I didn't always agree with them.

{{ There a quite few folk we miss greatly, Eldy being one of the chief, alongside Orwell (who at least occasionally still hovers over us and blesses us with a post or two) and of coure Mrs Figg (who I would wish back, she can completely ignore me if she chooses, that's fair enough, but I know there are others who would also very much love to see her back), and theres Gandalf's Beard, Ringdrotten, Norc, the enigmatic Lester's Cat (if they werent a sockpuppet, never did work that one out ) and so many others, too many to mention sadly over the years. I think as internet forums of this type have died this place hangs on out of a sort of sheer bloody mindeness to just keep going reagrdless. I strongly approve of such a mindset! }}
