You have to watch the front of the red car. 70 pound dog picked up and spun around by a dust devel, captured by a neighbor's doorbell camera.
The dog was dazed for a few seconds, then went back to playing with the kids.

Re: cool dude animals
It's kinda sad to think other continents don't have racoons. but it's difficult to camp if they are around, because they get into absolutely everything.
I took some city kids camping on a moonless night, and we had the treat of watching a bag of fritos climb a tree. It was a racoon of coarse, but it wasn't as reflective as that foil coated bag.

Re: cool dude animals
I saw a slow worm yesterday:

Never seen one before (they are quite rare in the UK these days), I thought it may have been a small grass snake at first (I have seen one of those before) it was maybe half the length of my forearm, didn't pay any attention to me at all and went on its way.
Also saw these, is the second a stag beetle? (also quite rare):

I'm pretty sure I also saw a freshwater eel the other day during a walk along a local river, was about the length of my forearm and very fast (I tried to snap a photo/video but the light contrast was too high) never seen one before and I've walked down that river many times (trout are very common, and I've seen pike several times but never an eel)
Also came across a few deer a couple of weeks ago, guess the hot weather is brining them all out...

Re: cool dude animals
Are they venomous? If not you shouldn't be too worried about yourself: snakes generally only strike at beings who are persistent in their molestations. Dogs are a bigger worry because they are numbskulls about exactly that sort of thing.

Re: cool dude animals
{{ Its an adder. The only venomous snake in the UK. But itsnot massively so, painful and unpleasant and you'll need treatment, but your not going to drop dead on the spot, probably (the last person to die from an adder bite was in 1975. Since 1876 there have been only 14 fatalities).
They generally stay out folks way, but they are dangerous when nesting, as most animals are, and like most snakes they tend to lie out on rocks in the morning sun to charge themselves up and sometimes people dont see them till they are right on them.
Slow worms are cool. They arent snakes but lizards (you can tell as they have eyelids and blink) I used to have one as a pet when I was a kid, it used to wrap itself right round my waist for hours on end and just stay there. I once accidentally sat on its tail when it was doing that and got bitten- but they have no proper teeth, small backwards facing ones handy for eating insects but no fangs or anything like that, so it basically gives you a not very loving hicky!

Oh weird. Yeah you can see that they don't appear as muscled as a snake does. They're kind of floppy looking. They remind me of Alligator Lizards:
Those bugs look bloody enormous!
