Same
I wouldn't say it's quite Farrel's real accent: I think the whole cast are putting it on a bit to match the part of Ireland the story is set.
That's the thing I like about McDonagh's movies: he started with plays, and this shows in the effective dialogue he writes. His brother is not a playwright, but seems to have a similar talent for it (The Guard, Calvary).

In Bruges is far too depressing for me. Don't like it.

Re: Future releases [2]
Yeah we shall see. I suspect it is chock full of 5th edition D&D-isms: in other words, fake and stupid D&D.

Re: Future releases [2]
You do realize that there is a natural correspondence between "fake" and "D&D", right?

Re: Future releases [2]
{{ Very true Halfy- but there should not be a correspondence between 5th edition and bloody game wrecking, game breaking dumbarsery!
When I was DMing I refused to use 5th, hell I wasnt keen on a lot of 4th, as DM I loathed feats. All that stuff deemphasises good role playing and emphasises being an overpowered juggernaut. Hated it. }}

Re: Future releases [2]
Well it's like the difference between playing a game and pretending to play a game: that's what I mean by fake.
It is a rules system that pretends to be able to do all manner of things, but that consists of mediocre half-measures that add up to a totality of banal incompetence.

Re: Future releases [2]
I reviewed it some time back, in the "seen any good films" thread. To me the main fun was seeing glamour/action stars like Jamie Lee Curtis and Michelle Yeoh playing characters in drab lives, and revelling in portraying the third-rate everyday experience. Neither of them has been anywhere near a suburban asian-american landromat owner or a harried tax examiner, but they killed it. The performances were right on the edge between reality and satire; a brilliant balancing act from the entire cast.

Re: Future releases [2]
It's a chaotic mess, but I guess it had enough feel-good parts in the midst of the tedious nihilism to trick people into thinking it had a positive message.Mrs Figg wrote:anyone seen Everything Everywhere yet? it looks cool.

Re: Future releases [2]
Yes, it's chaotic. The science fiction/surrealistic parts didn't interest me, except insomuch as we got to see a beaten down acerbic laundry room owner reacting to the surrealistic mess. The surrealistic interjections could have been anything - all that mattered is that we kept returning to Yeoh's hard bitten chinese mother going "fuck all this saving the universe shit - I've gotta get my tax situation sorted out or I'll lose the laundromat."
I wouldn't have awarded it Best Picture. But it was a refreshing diversion from typical Hollywood formula films.

Lots of people seem to hate this, mostly because of Phoebe Waller Bridge.
